Key to Using the Proposals Map Key to using the Proposals Map This proposals map forms part of the Local Development Plan 2016. It consists of a number of inset maps which must be read together to identify the relevant policy designations and proposals for any area within East Lothian. Four of these inset maps have been produced at the East Lothian scale and identify policy designations that are best shown at that East Lothian wide scale: Inset Map 1: International and RAMSAR Sites National Natural Heritage Special Protection Areas Designations: Sites of Special Scientific Interest Geological Conservation Review Sites Inset Map 2: Local Natural Biodoversity Sites Heritage Designations: Geodiversity Sites John Muir Country Park Aberlady Bay Inset Map 3: Landscape The Countryside Designations & Infrastructure Gardens and Designed Landscapes Designations Greenbelt Countryside Around Towns Pipeline Consultation Zones Torness Consultation Zone Edinburgh Airport Safeguarding Zone Segregated Active Travel Corridor The indicative line of the proposed 4 track section of the East Coast Main Line Inset Map 4: Further The Coast Landscape Designations Special Landscape Areas The remaining inset maps have been produced at settlement scale and identify the relevant policies and proposals that apply within each of the settlements of East Lothian. Other than for the greenbelt, countryside around towns and the countryside, the policy designations shown on the East Lothian wide inset maps will not be repeated at the settlement inset map level. Therefore for completeness the settlement inset maps must be read in conjunction with the relevant parts of each of the East Lothian wide inset maps that relate to the settlement in question.     7. Some Lesser Lothian Streams This is a ‘wash-up’ section, in which I look briefly at a number of small streams, mostly called burns, which flow directly to the sea or the Firth of Forth, but which in terms of discharge rate are mainly an order of magnitude smaller than the rivers looked at so far. For each, I give a short account of the course and pick out a few features of interest, presenting photographs as seems appropriate. Starting furthest to the east, the streams dealt with are as follows: 1. Dunglas Burn 2. Thornton Burn 3. Spott Burn 4. Biel Water 5. East Peffer Burn 6. West Peffer Burn 7. Niddrie Burn 8. Braid Burn 9. Midhope Burn As shall become clear, some of these streams change their names more than once along their lengths and most are formed at the junction of other named streams, but hopefully any confusion will be resolved in the accounts which follow. 7.1 The Dunglas Burn The stream begins life as the Oldhamstocks Burn which collects water from a number of springs on Monynut Edge, the eastern flank of the Lammermuir Hills. No one of these feeders dominates, so the source is taken as where the name Oldhamstocks Burn appears, at grid point NT 713 699, close to the 200m contour. After flowing c3km east, the name changes to the Dunglas Burn which flows slightly north-east in a deep, steep- sided valley for just over 7km to reach the sea. For the downstream part of its course the burn is the boundary between the Lothians and the Scottish Borders, but upstream it flows in the former region.

The role of Area Partnerships is to: Develop an Area Plan based on a shared vision for the area using evidence from a variety of sources; Monitor the delivery of the Area Plans and report to the wider community on impact each year; Show creative and active leadership to meet challenges faced by people and communities and maximise opportunities when they arise; Assist in determining how resources are allocated in their area according to Area Plan priorities; Act as a key point of contact for services to consult and engage with communities on the delivery and improvement of local services; and Engage the wider community in identifying issues and solutions for their local area. Continue to the next junction where a sign for a public path points left towards Springfield Farm. Continue beyond Springfield Farm to emerge on the public road to the north of Oldhamstocks.
