Wednesday, January 8, 2020 Lecture & Workshop: Shibori, and Boro Techniques

Catherine Flowers, our own ECNG member and recipient of the 2018 Scholarship grant, will share her recently acquired knowledge as a student at a Pro Chemical and Dye’s workshop.

While under the instruction of Carole Anne Grotrian, this week long class focused on the Traditional Slow Stitch; Indigo Shibori and Boro” style. Boro cloths were derived by pure necessity and utilized these stitching techniques by patching and stitching the fabric. This allowed it to be repaired and strengthened so its life could be extended, and passed down through generations.

Workshop: What is Boro Stitching? Time frame: 1:00-3:00PM This workshop will focus on Boro Stitching, Slow Stitching and it’s “mending” of patches carefully sewed and reinforced with stitching. You will use a 12”x12” piece of background fabric to create a unique mug rug and/or coaster! Workshop and Kit: $15 Class is full!

 Workshop Kit includes: Background fabric, Batting, Sashiko thread and needles and assorted scraps which will be available for patching.
