Read to a Dog !

Readers of all ability levels can practice their skills reading to licensed therapy dogs on Wednesday evenings throughout the winter. This program is designed to build confidence and vocabulary while children enjoy reading to their furry friends!

Wednesday evenings, 7-8pm: Jan. 18th, Feb. 15th, March 14th, April 18th, May 16th

Saturday Programs: Family Fun!

Every Saturday in January visit the library from 2-4pm for a family movie or activity .

Every Saturday in February visit the library from 11am-12pm for a family activity.

Saturday, February 11th we will host a Valentine craft for the whole family, followed by a special Valentine screening of Gnomeo and Juliet.

Black Maria Film Festival

We are excited to be hosting the Black Maria Film Festival again this year. The Festival is sponsored by the Madison Arts and Culture Alliance and Rose City Framers. Join us on Friday, February 24th at 8pm in the Chase Room for this wonderful evening of short films. Since 1981, the annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival, named for Thomas Edison’s first motion picture studio, has toured around the country visiting more than 65 diverse institutions in over 20 states. The Festival has been acclaimed for advocating, supporting and widely exhibiting fresh short works up to an hour in length by emerging and veteran film and videomakers. Admission is $10 per person.

The FrostKings

Join us in the Chase Room on Saturday, February 4th at 1pm for a wonderful concert by the FrostKings. The FrostKings are a Swing, R & B, and Blues band from the North Jersey area. Equally at home playing swinging shuffles, slow blues or full-tilt boogies, their reper- toire ranges from the West Coast swing stylings of Louis Jordan and T- Bone Walker, to the classic blues of B.B. King and Muddy Waters, to the R&B of Wilson Pickett and Herbie Hancock. This concert is free and open to the public.

Wednesday Night at the Movies All movies begin promptly at 7:00 pm January 11: The Help (2011); rated PG-13; Starring Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard; 137 min- utes. During the civil-rights movement of the 1960s, an aspiring author writes the story of prominent white families in her town, as viewed through the eyes of their African-American maids.

January 25: Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011); rated PG-13; Starring Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone; 118 minutes. A middle-aged man’s life changes dramatically when his wife asks him for a di- vorce. He attempts to rediscover his manhood with his new friend, a pick-up artist at the local bar.

February 8: Groundhog Day ( 1993); rated PG; Starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell; 101 minutes. An ar- rogant weatherman finds himself living the same day over and over again.

February 22: The Conspirator (2010); rated PG-13; Starring Robin Wright, Keven Kline, Tom Wilkinson; 122 minutes. The lone female conspirator in the plot against Lincoln’s life is forced to rely on her reluctant law- yer to uncover the truth and save her life.

Minicourses Non-credit educational programs for adults co-sponsored by Drew University and the Friends of the Madison Public Library. These courses are intended to be suitable for the general public, with no prerequisites. However, they are taught at a level consistent with Drew University’s outstanding academic reputation. The program will be held in the Library’s Chase Auditorium. The tuition for one course is $85. Additional courses for one individ- ual are $65 each. The brochure is available at the Library. These funds were designated for the 973-377-0722 purchase of items for the circulating collection that promote healthy eating and lifestyles.
