His Installation Mass will take place at St. George’s Cathedral on Thursday 25th July at mid-day. Please keep him in your prayers asking for God’s guidance as he prepares to take on his new responsibilities. First Holy Communion Today our 10am Mass will be the Thanksgiving Celebration Mass for the twelve children who celebrated their First Holy Communion yesterday. Afterwards there will be a reception in the hall to which all parishioners are welcome. We thank the parents of these children for living up to the promises they made at Baptism. We also thank our catechists, Louisa Nkohkwo, Karen Clancy and Aurea Coloma for all the time they have given in preparing the children and their parents for this special day. We offer our prayers and best wishes to them all. Confirmation 2019 Bishop Paul will be administering the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday 27th October at the 6pm Mass. There will be a preliminary meeting of Parents and Candidates immediately after the 10am Mass on Sunday 30th June for registering on the Programme. Church Grounds Tidy-Up We are looking for Volunteers to help with Tidying-Up the Church Grounds on Saturday 29th June at 10am. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.     Archdiocese of Southwark Pastoral Letter Concerning the Measures to be put in place Regarding Public Worship and the Celebration of the Sacraments in Relation to the COVID-19 (Coronavius) Pandemic ‘Our help in is the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.’ Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ I wanted to write to you personally as we face the threats posed locally, nationally, and internationally by the COVID-19 Coronavirus. For so many people, including those in our parish and school communities, this situation brings uncertainty and fear. It has the capacity to bring out both the best and the worst of our human nature. Working together, in the strength of God’s grace, we must seek to ensure that the very best of our common humanity triumphs, especially for the health and well-being of the weakest, the poorest, and the most vulnerable. The Lord Jesus commanded us to love one another and to serve after His example. (Jn 13: 12-15; 13:34) Now is the time for our love to be displayed more deeply and our service to find heightened expression. Our calling as disciples is to be salt and light to the world (Mt 5:13-16) in witness to the Gospel of Christ. 1 Few of us will have witnessed circumstances such as those we are presently experiencing. It is crucial that we take the necessary measures to maximise the welfare of every person and follow the guidance and requirements of our Government and Statutory Agencies. The Bishops of England and Wales have implemented changes in how we are to practise our faith as we move forward.

    A People who Hope in Christ A Message from the Metropolitan Archbishops of the Catholic Church in England and Wales Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, The radiance of the risen Lord shines upon us. At a time when so many shadows are cast into our lives, and upon our world, the light of the resurrection shines forever to renew and restore our hope. In the words of our Holy Father, Pope Francis: ‘In the midst of isolation when we are suffering from a lack of tenderness and chances to meet up, and we experience the loss of so many things, let us once again listen to the proclamation that saves us: he is risen and is living by our side.’ (27 March 2020) The impact of Covid-19, both nationally and internationally, has been immense. So much of what we take for granted has changed. Our health and physical interaction, our capacity to travel and gather, have all been affected. There is uncertainty in our future, especially with work and the country’s economy. As we know, very sadly, large numbers of people have died because of the coronavirus, and others have been or remain seriously ill. Keyworkers, not least in the National Health Service and care sectors, are serving selflessly to sustain the life of our nation. Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone who is suffering because of Covid-19, and to all those battling to overcome its effects. May those who have died rest in peace and those who are bereaved find comfort. When the Prime Minister announced the lockdown, this included places of worship and therefore Catholic churches.

By the time of the 1850 census, we find families headed by one or both Irish-born parents fairly evenly distributed throughout that portion of the city lying north of Rich Street, with just a slightly higher proportion in the northern part of the city. These were, (a) near Spring & Third, James Sheridan, James Handiboe, James Hughes, and James McGuire; (b) on Water St. (now Marconi) between Long & Spring, Margaret Burns, William Mahoney, Owen Donan, Peter Donahoe, and John Early (probably others of the Irish living there were also Catholics); (c) Gay Street between High & Third, Michael Moran, John Larkin, Frank Sheridan, and Thomas Callaghan (likewise, probably others of the Irish living there were Catholics).

    Some of the key aims of The Wednesday Word include: to serve the Catholic dioceses of England and Wales and further the mission of the Catholic Church’s new evangelisation by enabling schools to spread the Word of God (Sunday’s Gospel) - Good News - to primary school parents, carers and their families to make real the Diocesan mission statement: “taking to heart the last words of the Lord Jesus, we will go into the world to proclaim the Good News to the whole of creation” to create a new form of lively weekly contact between the Church and parents who may be adrift from going to Church; which includes a weekly invitation to the celebration of the Eucharist whilst their child is connected to the life of the Catholic school to help school parents and families to draw closer to Christ and his Church by educating them about scripture and Catholic faith through The Wednesday Word ensuring that all supporting material is overseen by Catholic scripture scholars and endorsed with an imprimatur to strengthen the school’s Catholic ethos and promote this new way of collaborative ministry which enhances the home, school and parish partnership and encourages Christian unity in mixed denominational school families through a shared reflection on the Gospel to create a new weekly opportunity for Christ centred family conversation, evening prayer and relationships to be strengthened through The Wednesday Word a “Sunday Gospel Family Time” which is based on the Benedictine prayer custom of Lectio Divina to encourage and enable parishioners to pray for their parish school and its families, whilst also making their own fruitful preparation for the coming Sunday Mass, through the parish church version of The Wednesday Word Endorsements from Church leaders: Archbishop Patrick Kelly Liverpool: The Wednesday Word provides a wonderful opportunity for faith development and will serve to enrich the relationships within the home/school/parish partnership.
