Oh Canada! Majority of Canadians Believe Canadian NHL Team Can Win Lord Stanley's Cup by 2013 Oh Canada! Majority of Canadians Believe Canadian NHL Team Can Win Lord Stanley's Cup by 2013 Yahoo! Canada Sports Ready to Bring Hockey Fans All the Latest News and Developments during 2010- 2011 Season TORONTO, Oct 06, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Montreal Canadiens were the last Canadian-based NHL team to win the Stanley Cup in 1993, and according to Canadians, the Habs (Les Habitants) stand the best chance at hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup in our home and native land by 2013. A survey of 1,503 Canadians conducted by Leger Marketing for Yahoo! Canada Sports shows that over 80 per cent of respondents believe a Canadian team can win the Cup by 2013 - the 20th anniversary of the Habs' win. While 24 per cent believe the Habs have the best shot at winning the Cup again, Canadians believe the Vancouver Canucks have the next best shot (22%), followed by the Ottawa Senators (11%), Calgary Flames (9%), with the Toronto Maple Leafs (8%) and Edmonton Oilers (5%) rounding out the list. Sixteen per cent believe no Canadian NHL team will win the Cup by 2013. "It's hard to believe almost 20 years have passed since the last Canadian team won the Cup, but it looks like Canadians have faith that Lord Stanley's goblet will find its way to a team north of the 49th parallel again soon," says Steve McAllister, managing editor - sports for Yahoo! Canada. "The National Hockey League has undergone many changes in the last two decades, so it will be interesting to see if the Habs can pull out a win or if the Stanley Cup drought continues for the Canadian clubs." Other notable findings include: ● The Battle of Alberta: One quarter (25%) of Albertans believe the Flames stand a chance of winning the Cup compared to 20% who believe the Edmonton Oilers do. ● Leafs vs. Sens: 16% of Ontarians believe the Sens can win compared to 13% who say the same about the Leafs. ● Prairie Outlook: 23 per cent of Manitoba and Saskatchewan respondents believe the Habs stand the best chance at winning the Cup. ● Eastern Sentiment: Atlantic Canada is also a Habs stronghold, with 27 per cent believing a Habs win is most likely. Portail de l'éducation de Historica Canada Canada's Game - The Modern Era Overview This lesson plan is based on viewing the Footprints videos for Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Father David Bauer, Bobby Hull,Wayne Gretzky, and The Forum. Throughout hockey's history, though they are not presented in the Footprints, francophone players like Guy Lafleur, Mario Lemieux, Raymond Bourque, Jacques Lemaire, and Patrick Roy also made a significant contribution to the sport. Parents still watch their children skate around cold arenas before the sun is up and backyard rinks remain national landmarks. But hockey is no longer just Canada's game. Now played in cities better known for their golf courses than their ice rinks, hockey is an international game. Hockey superstars and hallowed ice rinks became national icons as the game matured and Canadians negotiated their role in the modern era. Aims To increase student awareness of the development of the game of hockey in Canada; to increase student recognition of the contributions made by hockey players as innovators and their contributions to the game; to examine their accomplishments in their historical context; to explore how hockey has evolved into the modern game; to understand the role of memory and commemoration in our understanding of the past and present; and to critically investigate myth-making as a way of understanding the game’s relationship to national identity. Background Frozen fans huddled in the open air and helmet-less players battled for the puck in a -28 degree Celsius wind chill. The festive celebration was the second-ever outdoor National Hockey League game, held on 22 November 2003.

THANK YOU & CAMPAIGN RESULTS HHTH.COM | #STAYTHEPUCKHOME ABOUT THE STAY THE PUCK HOME CAMPAIGN FROM HOCKEY HELPS THE HOMELESS & BARDOWN HOCKEY Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hockey Helps the Homeless (HHTH) was forced to put their pro- am tournament season on hold, which bring in much-needed dollars to homeless support agencies and shelters across Canada. However, just because the pandemic put the rest of the world on pause, the need for support and funding for homeless and at-risk Canadians did not stop. In fact, it is only growing. For homeless and at-risk Canadians, the realities of the novel coronavirus are much different. They are at a much higher risk of contracting infections, chronic illnesses or compromised immune systems, making them extremely vulnerable to the virus and many lack the access to the supplies and infrastructure needed to maintain their health. Shelters and front-line workers working through the pandemic are in desperate need of funds since COVID-19 has put a tight strain on their budget and resources. They face an increase in demand from their clients, and a decrease in charitable giving from sponsors and their donors. Even though we are currently unable to host tournaments, everyone at HHTH still wanted to find a way to help. In order to do so, we teamed up with Bardown Hockey to create an exclusive, limited edition clothing line called “Stay The Puck Home” to support Canada’s homeless. 100% of net proceeds from the sale of the $25 t-shirts and $50 hoodies went to our charity partners from coast-to-coast.
