A Critical Analysis of Censorship Law and Bangladeshi Film
Journal of Law, Policy and Globalization www.iiste.org ISSN 2224-3240 (Paper) ISSN 2224-3259 (Online) Vol.36, 2015 A Critical Analysis of Censorship Law and Bangladeshi Film Kazi Shariful Islam Lecturer, School Of Law, Britannia University,Paduar Bazar, Bishwa Road,Comilla [email protected] Abstract Personally, I am one of the biggest fans of film from my very childhood. Especially I am the audience of Bangladeshi film. When I first met with television at that time the film was telecasted in Bangladesh television in every 15 days. These 15 days seemed like a thousand years. Normally at that time Bangladesh television was telecasted the film of early 70’s and 80’s (it is called the golden time of Bangladeshi film). Sareng bou, jibon theke neya, father, golapi ekhon train e, ora egaro jon, vat de, shutorang, behula, nil akasher niche, abar tora manush ho type film made me the biggest fan of Bangladeshi film. But when I reached in class 8/9 the total scenario was changed radically. Vulgarity in film, cut peace etc made the nasty environment. Someone came from cinema hall was not expected from our society. Sometimes it indicated the less personality of him! I felt sorry for that. From that time we lost our film market rapidly. We transfer the responsibility of entertainment to the big shoulder of television. Specifically a 14” to 32” television captured our every taste of entertainment. Specifically Indian serial exploit us. Those who declared themselves as a smart and intellectual audience heavily relied on toliwood movies. Almost the same story of Kolkata movies grasps the cinema field of Bangladesh. -
A Brief History of Music in Bangladeshi Cinema Before Liberation (1956-1970)
Vol-6 Issue-3 2020 IJARIIE-ISSN(O)-2395-4396 A Brief History of Music in Bangladeshi Cinema before liberation (1956-1970). Ruksana Karim Lecturer, Dept. of Music, Jagannath University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Former research fellow, 2015-16 & 2018-19 Bangladesh Film Archive. Abstract This study describes the beginning of musical journey of Bangladeshi cinema. The 49 years old country ‘Bangladesh’ has a beautiful history of cinema and music (near about 122 years old). But the journey was not as easy as present when Bangladesh (previous East Pakistan) was a part of Pakistan. This paper is a complete narration of musical perspective in Bangladeshi cinema and introduces authentic Bangladeshi culture. The history of Bangladeshi cinema is very much related with Indo-Pak sub continental cinema history. From another aspect, this study discusses the positive sides, all ups and downs of the beginning period of Bangladeshi cinema music. The methodology of this study is purely based on historical analysis and description that includes quite observation, literature reviews and interviews. Music in Bangladeshi cinema is strongly connected to the roots of its culture and this chapter really needs a quality research to go forward. From another view, this study introduces a good number of film makers and music directors of Bangladesh who had a lot of art work to make the history, classifies the film song in different categories and describes how the socio-economic condition presents through music in cinemas? It seems like a mirror, which is only the reflection, their life, culture and Bengali nationality. To forward this glory to the future generation and other nations, there is no alternative of describing the fundamental history as this study is doing. -

Rivers As the Site of Flood and Drought Through the Lens of Ritwik Ghatak's Titas Ekti Nadir Naam

(2021). Rivers as the site of fear: Flood and drought through the lens of Ritwik Ghatak's Titas Ekti Nadir Naam. International Journal of Fear Studies, 3(1), 52-60 http://hdl.handle.net/1880/113233 journal article Sinjini Ray ©2021 Downloaded from PRISM: https://prism.ucalgary.ca International Journal of Fear Studies 3(1), 2021 Rivers as the Site of Fear: Flood and Drought Through the Lens of Ritwik Ghatak’s Titas Ekti Nadir Naam Ray, Sinjini (India) Abstract India and Bangladesh since the very advent of their formation have been known to be heavily dependent on their rivers for resources of livelihood. The rivers, of both East and West Bengal are often addressed as ‘mother’, providing for everything necessary to live on. At times however, these very rivers acquire frightful shape wreaking havoc on and causing absolute jeopardy to the lives of the people depending on them. This frightful state of the rivers may occur both in forms of flood as well as drying up of river beds, causing drought. Bengal has been through some of the most severe droughts in history and in this paper, I shall try to look back at the catastrophes that they were. In this context, I would also like to discuss Ritwik Ghatak’s film Titas Ekti Nadir Naam (A River Called Titas) for its portrayal of people’s dependence on the river with their fates tied up with that of the river. -
