Your membership reflects the commitment that your business has to excellence, safety, industry alliances and professionalism in our industry today. I also like to think of BANY membership as the edge that you have over competitors who do not belong. As always, it is a pleasure to introduce you to the new 2017/2018 BANY Membership Directory & Resource Guide. As you will see, our membership continues to grow. Take the time to browse this comprehensive compiling of members and see who your BANY colleagues are! Regardless of your membership – operator or associate member – it is important to promote and support fellow BANY members when needed. The primary purpose of our association is to promote the motor coach industry for all the varied interests of our membership. From equipment suppliers to operators, tour and travel associates to products and services, your concerns and issues are the association’s as well. BANY reaches out to its membership through the “Friday Flash” newsletter and our Annual Meeting and Marketplace. I am very pleased to announce that our 2017 Annual Fall Meeting and Marketplace will be taking place October 22 – 24, 2017, at the Saratoga Hotel & Casino. This new deluxe hotel property is sure to please our delegates, and our Meeting Committee is hard at work finalizing the agenda. Highlights include pertinent seminars, industry updates both at the state and federal levels, many networking opportunities, a marketplace, guest speakers and a chance to visit vendor booths and motor coaches on display. A record number of attendees joined us at last year’s event; plan to join us this year. Looking ahead to 2018, our location is set – we will be returning to the beautiful Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown October 21-23, 2018. So don’t just mark your calendar for one year – mark it for two! And of course, we’re always just a phone call or email away. It is important to us that we meet your needs. If, for any reason, you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact the BANY office. We would be most happy to assistant you. It is with a great deal of pride that I look back over the last several years and reflect on where we were then and where we are now. We are an association recognized at the state and federal level as a leader at the forefront of issues, concerns and leadership. Our association members, board members and leaders are passionate, dedicated, active and strong in promoting both BANY and the motor coach industry. As I have stated many times, an association is only as strong as its membership. And we are strong! Thank you. As your president, I am proud and honored to represent all of you and your interests. Thank you again for this humbling opportunity. Please join me in thanking Executive Director Tammy St. Louis for her hard work and diligence in taking care of our association on a day-to-day basis. Welcome to the new directory. These elements include the road system, public transporta- tion, and Westchester County Airport (HPN). The moving of people and goods is essential for any community. Community transporta- tion assets, traffic conditions and census data are presented here to allow the full transportation picture for the Village of Rye Brook. 5.1 Road System The road system in the Village of Rye Brook includes limited ac- cess roadways, major arterial roadways, collector roads and local streets. There are approximately 30 miles of roadways in the Vil- lage. Each roadway is designed to serve a different function to move people and goods in an efficient manner. Map 5-1 Road Net- work on page 5-2 shows the four categories of roadways. A. DC City Guide Page | 1 Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States and the seat of its three branches of government, has a collection of free, public museums unparalleled in size and scope throughout the history of mankind, and the lion's share of the nation's most treasured monuments and memorials. The vistas on the National Mall between the Capitol, Washington Monument, White House, and Lincoln Memorial are famous throughout the world as icons of the world's wealthiest and most powerful nation. Beyond the Mall, D.C. has in the past two decades shed its old reputation as a city both boring and dangerous, with shopping, dining, and nightlife befitting a world-class metropolis. Travelers will find the city new, exciting, and decidedly cosmopolitan and international. Districts Virtually all of D.C.'s tourists flock to the Mall—a two-mile long, beautiful stretch of parkland that holds many of the city's monuments and Smithsonian museums—but the city itself is a vibrant metropolis that often has little to do with monuments, politics, or white, neoclassical buildings. The Smithsonian is a "can't miss," but don't trick yourself—you haven't really been to D.C. until you've been out and about the city. Page | 2 Downtown (The National Mall, East End, West End, Waterfront) The center of it all: The National Mall, D.C.'s main theater district, Smithsonian and non- Smithsonian museums galore, fine dining, Chinatown, the Verizon Center, the Convention Center, the central business district, the White House, West Potomac Park, the Kennedy Center, George Washington University, the beautiful Tidal Basin, and the new Nationals Park.

  • There and Back Again: Mobilising Tourist Imaginaries at the Tower Of
There and Back Again: Mobilising Tourist Imaginaries at the Tower of London Matthew Hughes Ansell 2014 Dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MA in Cultural Heritage Studies of University College London in 2017 UCL INSTITUTE OF ARCHAEOLOGY ‘Those responsible for the brochure had darkly intuited how easily their readers might be turned into prey by photographs whose power insulted the intelligence and contravened any notions of free will: over-exposed photographs of palm trees, clear skies, and white beaches. Readers who would have been capable of skepticism and prudence in other areas of their lives reverted in contact with these elements to a primordial innocence and optimism. The longing provoked by the brochure was an example, at once touching and bathetic, of how projects (and even whole lies) might be influenced by the simplest and most unexamined images of happiness; of how a lengthy and ruinously expensive journey might be set into motion by nothing more than the sight of a photograph of a palm tree gently inclining in a tropical breeze’ (de Botton 2002, 9). 2 Abstract Tourist sites are amalgams of competing and complimentary narratives that dialectically circulate and imbue places with meaning. Widely held tourism narratives, known as tourist imaginaries, are manifestations of ‘shared mental life’ (Leite 2014, 268) by tourists, would-be tourists, and not-yet tourists prior to, during, and after the tourism experience. This dissertation investigates those specific pre-tour understandings that inform tourists’ expectations and understandings of place prior to visiting. Looking specifically at the Tower of London, I employ content and discourse analysis alongside ethnographic field methods to identify the predominant tourist imaginaries of the Tower of London, trace their circulation and reproduction, and ultimately discuss their impact on visitor experience at the Tower.

SUNDAY, JULY 1, 2018 . THE WASHINGTON POST EZ EE F5 The deals on the bus BY MEGAN MCDONOUGH The 227-mile ride from the District to New York City can sometimes resemble a game of duck, duck, goose. But instead of waterfowl, travelers count vehicles: car, car, bus. Car, car, bus. The much-maligned workhorses of mass transport have made a resurgence in the last decade and, in response, the number of carriers has surged, with companies adding more creature comforts, departure times and rewards programs to encourage loyalty. ¶ And while they all look nearly identical from the outside — flashy signage excepted — no two bus operators are the same. Their ticket prices, points of departure, amenities and scheduling can vary widely. And those distinctions matter, especially as you’re entering Hour 3. ¶ Overwhelmed by the options?
