Some physicians might make light of patients’ rights, because the increased awareness of such rights might make it more difficult for them to conduct medical practice. In the present study, predictors significantly associated with “a sense of resistance to patients’ rights” were examined using anonymous self-administered questionnaires. For these predictors, we produced original items with reference to the concept of ethical development and the teachings of Mencius. The subjects were medical students at the Kitasato University School of Medicine, a private university in Japan. A total of 518 students were analyzed (response rate, 78.4%). The average age of enrolled subjects was 22.5 ± 2.7 years (average age ± standard deviation). The average age of 308 male subjects was 22.7 ± 2.8 years, while that of 210 female subjects was 22.1 ± 2.5 years.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a single session of hippotherapy on hypertonia caused by the autonomic imbalance in children with spastic CP. Methods: Twenty-two children with spastic CP underwent hippotherapy for 15 minutes. Vertical movement acceleration during hippotherapy was analyzed to detect a 1/f fluctuation. Pupil size, gastrocnemius muscle activity, and modified Ashworth scale (MAS) scores were determined before and after hippotherapy. The high-frequency (HF) and low-frequency (LF) components were analyzed to determine heart rate variability using R-R intervals obtained from a Holter electrocardiogram. The change in muscle activity, LF/HF, and pupil size before and after hippotherapy were calculated (Δmuscle activity, ΔLF/HF, and Δpupil size). Results: A 1/f fluctuation was observed during hippotherapy in 17 of 22 children evaluated. The LF/ HF, pupil size, muscle activity, and MAS score significantly decreased after hippotherapy (P = 0.04, P = 0.03, P = 0.04, P < 0.001, respectively), while the HF value increased (P = 0.04).

A serologic investigation of Brucella infection was performed in 7 species of J. Vet. Med. Sci. cetaceans inhabiting along the coast of Japan. A total of 32 serum samples were examined by 82(1): 43–46, 2020 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using Brucella abortus and B. canis antigens. One serum sample from five melon-headed whales (Peponocephala electra) was positive for B.
