Our ultimate goal is to get to the place where we will never need another Relay. We invite you to look at the master schedule for all the events and activities that will take place here during the Relay. While you may not be on the track for the entire time, you will see a host of things to keep you entertained and informed.

August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.

3/27/1852 From:Charles H. Howard To: Mother [Eliza Gilmore] CHH-001 Kent's Hill, Maine Kent's Hill, March, 27, 1852. [This is Charles' first letter away from home. He was 13, born Aug 28, 1838] Dear Mother, I now sit down to tell you how I get along away from all of my friends, for I believe that I have never been away before except that some one of my brothers has been with me but I don't know but what I get along as well so far as though some one of my friends had been with me. I am situated in a pleasant room with a pleasant room-mate. I was lucky enough to get in with Mr. Hewet whom I was acquainted with before this I suppose Rowland informed you of. Anyone would hardly think but that if I am pleasantly situated I might be happy. But although I said I did not know but I prospered as well so far without my brothers with me, yet I do not feel so well, I feel sometimes home sick but not much. But this is nothing, I can't expect to be at home with my mother always, tho I should like to be. My health is the main thing for sure. It is as good as when I left home I think. I like Mr. Torsey [Henry P. Torsey, Headmaster of Kent's Hill School] well as a teacher. I have not spoken with him since I saw him with Rowland at the Mansion.

  • MARTY STUART TRAVELS from SATURDAY NIGHT to SUNDAY MORNING by Mario Tarradell
MARTY STUART TRAVELS FROM SATURDAY NIGHT TO SUNDAY MORNING By Mario Tarradell Country music singer, songwriter, guitarist, TV show host and historian continues to mine the rich treasures of American roots music Marty Stuart spent nine years journeying from Saturday night into Sunday morning. That’s no hyperbole. The country singer, songwriter, guitarist, TV show host and noted historian took nearly a decade to craft his expansive and ambitious double-album, Saturday Night/Sunday Morning. The just-released effort not only combines Stuart’s predilection for all things American roots music – country, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, gospel and bluegrass – but it also tells a story. “I wanted it to flow as a continuation, as an evolution,” says Stuart, 56, by phone from his home in Nashville. “We toured all the while making this record. The more we developed the idea, the more songs started piling up.” As the title suggests, Saturday Night/Sunday Morning captures the dichotomous reality of raising hell and seeking heaven. It’s about night and day, dark and light; the balancing act of feeding the flesh and nourishing the soul. The Saturday Night disc is all about the honky-tonk, while the Sunday Morning CD is all about the church. Stuart calls it “spiritual warfare,” noting that it’s a fine line we all struggle with in our lives. The gospel harmonies on the Sunday Morning side are particularly impressive, recalling the best of the Oak Ridge Boys and the Staple Singers. Stuart and his longtime band, the Fabulous Superlatives, found common ground as people in that musical world of Southern gospel.

One of the many misconception about country music is that its audience is strictly southern and rural; my northern urban working class family listened exclusively to country music. As a teenager I was was more interested in Motown than Nashville, but by the time I reached my early thirties I had became a serious country music fan.
