State Report Card 5 MUMBAI | 18 MAY 2014 STATE REPORT CARD 5 . < GUJARAT THAT MODI BUILT Under Narendra Modi, Gujarat has seen rapid growth, development in infrastructure and a slew of investments into various sectors. His term as chief minister, however, had its share of controversies. It now plans to raise the capacity from the present 20 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 40 mtpa in the next five years with an investment of about ~35,000 crore. Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), which was already running a petrochemicals and integrated refinery complex at Jamnagar (commissioned in 1999-2000), has shown interest in investing further in Gujarat. RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani, during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit in 2013, had said his company was committed to invest about ~1 lakh crore in Source: Planning Commission expanding the capacities at Jamnagar, Hazira and Dahej. >AUTOMOBILES INDUSTRY-WISE % Y-O-Y GROWTH RATE In the automobile sector, the state flagged off investments after Tata Motors’ much-talked about Nano small car project relocated to Gujarat from West Bengal in 2008. Ever since, companies like Ford India and Maruti Suzuki have forayed into Gujarat. While Ford is all set to start production in a few months’ time, Maruti is yet to begin work at site. Following the entry of auto majors, two-wheelers makers like Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India have also chosen Gujarat for their coming plants. Sanand, which catapulted to fame after Nano’s entry, has seen other major multinationals like Bosch Rexroth India (drive and control solutions), Nestle and Colgate Palmolive (oral and dental hygiene products) setting up shop. • The Employment of Mythological and Literary Narratives in Identity Formation Among the Hijras of India
Vol. 4, no. 1 (2014), 21-39 | URN:NBN:NL:UI:10-1-114494 Narrating Identity: the Employment of Mythological and Literary Narratives in Identity Formation Among the Hijras of India JENNIFER UNG LOH* Abstract This article explores how the hijras and kinnars of India use mythological narratives in identity-formation. In contemporary India, the hijras are a minority group who are ostracised from mainstream society as a result of their non- heteronormative gender performances and anatomical presentations. Hijras suffer discrimination and marginalisation in their daily lives, forming their own social groups outside of natal families and kinship structures. Mythological and literary narratives play a significant role in explaining and legitimising behavioural patterns, ritual practices, and anatomical forms that are specific to hijras, and alleviating some of the stigma surrounding this identity. In this article, I focus on certain narratives that hijras employ in making sense of and giving meaning to their lives, including mythological stories concerning people of ambiguous gender and myths associated with Bahuchara Mata. I argue that these ontological narratives serve to bring hijra identity into being and play a crucial role in constructing and authenticating hijra identity in modern India. Keywords Hijras; kinnars; myth; narrativity; identity. Author affiliation Jennifer Ung Loh recently completed her PhD in the Department of the Study of Religions at SOAS, University of London (UK). • A 36.5-Acre Facility to Boost Industrial Activity and Logistics Operations
NEWS RELEASE ESR announces its plan to develop North Gujarat's first Grade A Industrial & Logistics Park in Jalisana, India A 36.5-acre facility to boost industrial activity and logistics operations MUMBAI, 22 July 2021 – ESR, the largest APAC focused logistics real estate platform, has announced its plan to develop a 36.5-acre industrial and logistics park in Jalisana, an emerging industrial hub of North Gujarat. Strategically located on SH-07 (Viramgam Becharaji Highway), ESR Jalisana Industrial & Logistics Park will cater to expansion and consolidation needs for engineering, electronics, energy, construction, machinery, automobile, auto-ancillary, e-commerce, and 3PL companies in the region. This park, designed with best-in-class specifications, is well connected to Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Kandla Mundra, ICD Khodiyar and Thar Dry Port. Close to established automobile manufacturing clusters of Vitthalapur and Becharji, Jalisana benefits from an existing industrial ecosystem and access to talent. Mandal-Becharaji region could emerge as India's largest automobile hub, as manufacturing units of Maruti Suzuki, Honda Cars, Honda Motorcycles and scooters and Toyota are already located in this region. Located near Ahmedabad, Jalisana is evolving as a significant warehousing and industrial destination. ESR Jalisana will be an enabler for consolidation, with flexible leasing options from 40,000 sq. ft. to over 500,000 sq. ft. Grade A spaces, a rare opportunity in this region. Speaking on the development, Abhijit Malkani, CEO, ESR India, said: "We are excited to enter one of the fastest-growing industrial zones of the country, with a robust manufacturing base and an upsurge in e-commerce adoption.

Transcription of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s speech on the inauguration of Gandhinagar Railway Station Shri Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India My colleagues in the Council of Ministers, the Parliamentarians of Gandhinagar, Shri Amit Shah Ji, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji, Gujarat Chief Minister Rupani Ji, Deputy Minister Nitin Bhai, Union Minister, Smt. Darshana Jardosh, other ministers in the Government of Gujarat, my colleagues in the Parliament, President of Bhartiya Janata Party, Gujarat, Shri C.R. Patil Ji, other members of Parliament, MLAs and my dear brothers and sisters, Greetings to all of you. I hope all is well. Today is the day of 21st century India's aspirations, a prominent symbol of Indian youth's feelings and possibilities, be it science and technology, better urban landscape. The modern infrastructure exemplifying connectivity is adding another chapter to the new identity of New India. I have inaugurated all the projects from Delhi here, but I am eager to come and see them myself. Brothers and sisters, today, the goal of the country is not only to build concrete structures but today, the infrastructure of such scale is being constructed in the country, which has a character of its own. Better public space is our need. It has reimagined urban planning like never thought before. In the urban planning of the past, it (better public space) was perceived as a luxury. The real estate and housing companies focus on park-facing houses, as most of the population has been deprived of quality public space and quality public life.
