YULEFEST 2019 PART 1: THE ISLANDS Window Installation inspired by 'Song of The Sea'

Made by Artist Teresa Howes

Story

Ben lives with his dad, Conor and his little sister Saoirse in the lighthouse on a beautifully isolated island located off the West coast of Ireland. Ben’s mam, Bronagh, who is a Selkie, resides in the sea, but leaves Ben with a vast knowledge of fairy songs and stories. One story in particular, about Macha, The Owl Witch. The story goes that Macha’s son Mac Lir, the giant, was suffering from heartache, he cried and cried. He cried so many tears that he formed an ocean. Macha decided that this grief was too much to bear, so she swooped in and drained all of his emotions, leaving Mac Lir to turn into stone. Mac Lir stands still, as an island, facing Ben’s Lighthouse. Macha continued to drain the emotion of everyone she met, including na Daoine Sidhe.
