1 ISAAC WRIGHT, BAKER, AND FAMILY In 1901 Isaac Wright and his family were still staying in Station Road where sons Robert and William were also bakers alongside their father while sister Marjory worked in the shop. By 1911 Robert had moved on and helping their father in the bakery were; William, James, Edward, and twenty year old James McGregor from , while sister Catherine helped out in the shop. Isaac Wright moved from Kemnay to Burghead sometime after 1911 and both he and his wife are buried in Burghead Cemetery, he having died in 1924 aged 69 years and his wife Helen dying in 1933 aged 74 years. Catherine Margaret Wright married Robert Taylor Smith, a native of . In May 1920 Catherine left on SS Minnedosa along with her six year old daughter Catherine Margaret Wright Smith and six month old son Robert for Canada to join her husband at 584 Ross Avenue, Winnipeg. Robert Taylor Smith had gone to Canada at an earlier date as he served in the Canadian Forestry Corps during World War I. Robert worked with Manitoba Cartage for 35 years until his retirement. In time Catherine Margaret Wright Smith (1914 - 2005), commonly known as Peggy, married Frederick Charles Dowle (1912 – 1978) and they moved to Kelowna in British Columbia. As he suffered from severe asthma Frederick Dowle was exempted from war service but worked for the Department of National Defence repairing radios. Following the war he had a wee shop repairing radios and household appliances. He had things down to a fine tee – he did the work and he left his wife to collect the debts. Following his death his ashes were scattered in a lake in Kelowna. Following her husband's death, Peggy moved back to Winnipeg to stay with family where she died in 2005. The couple had only one son, Glen Kenneth Dowle who was born in 1938. As soon as he was of age he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and proceeded through the ranks, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel at the age of fifty five years. He was a flight navigator and travelled extensively as a result of his work. He married Marjorie Doreen Waddell and they had four children: twins Douglas and Donald were born in September 1963, Come Along to Kemnay Church Centre Daniel in 1965 and Katherine Idell in 1969. Following his death in 2011, Glen was buried in Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. Kemnay Community Coffee Mornings

The Friday Kemnay Community Coffee Mornings will take place on all Fridays in March. 9.30 - 11.30 am.

Normally all of the profits from these mornings go to the Village Hall Funds. However, in March we will have two occasions when the funds will go to other sources.

We will hopefully join with on the 8th March and have a Purple for Polio Coffee Morning and then on 29th March we will support one of our regular users to raise money for the Cyrenians.

Come along and join in the fun All welcome.

KEMNAY BARGAIN BOX

We sell good quality goods on Fridays from 9.30 to 11.30am in the Wainman Room of the Village Hall (side entrance). Please drop off items at the Bargain Box or call in to make other arrangements. Due to recycling regulations from Council which effect what can and cannot be put in the outside bin at Kemnay Village Hall, we need to be very careful of the items we can accept as donations.

If you are unsure please contact us on a Friday morning in the Wainman Room. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Health Walks

These are short low level walks around Kemnay and designed for all abilities even those who have not exercised for a while. Anybody can join us, the walks are free and you don’t need any special equipment – just a sensible pair of walking shoes or boots! These walks are led by trained Walk Leaders. Please note that dogs are not permitted on the walks apart from Guide dogs.

In March we will be walking on every Friday 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th

We meet outside the Village Hall at 9.30 a.m. We aim to cater for all abilities and everybody is welcome. We run both a Health Walk that lasts approximately 60 minutes and a Gentle Walk that lasts 20 – 30 minutes.

The Health Walks are free and available to anybody living in Kemnay & area. These are excellent ways to get out of the house and meet new people.

We are particularly interested to meet with people who are living with some form of dementia and also their unpaid carers (e.g. family member, friend, neighbour) .

28 21 Report from the Rotary Club of Kintore Kemnay & District (KKD) It’s a new year and you’ll have made new resolutions for the year 2019. How many would like to give something back to the local, national and international communities. Our members of the Rotary Club of Kintore, Kemnay and District have been giving back for years. If you too would like to give something back then why not join us. We meet in Thainstone on Thursdays at 7.45pm, and for those who wish we have a meal before at 7pm. Please get in touch with Jim Thomson 07776172152. What have we been doing lately to give back? We have a speaker most weeks so we have been hearing about diabetes, the new neonatal unit and have given £200 to support them, we have been to see the new residential unit at Sue Ryder in Kincorth and again have given £200. We have been learning about the spread of polio as well as supporting our Interactors in Kemnay Academy, to organise an event to support the eradication of polio in the whole world. It is very close with only 3 countries left which have live polio and vaccinations costing only 20p. Perhaps you saw the Kemnay Co-op decorating their window in purple to help to raise awareness as since we have been polio free since 2004 all due to vaccinations given to our children. Also PETER Manson of the Kemnay Pharmacy cam to speak to us about the vaccinations of polio. Thanks to Castle Fraser for the purple scarf round their elephant! Our Funds4U posters are around and we are expecting a large amount of Kintore and Kemnay group applications. Last year we gave away nearly £3000. What will this year bring? To give away money of course means we need to fundraise. This brings us a lot of fun, and the main next event is the intoxicating tea party in Kintore Village Hall on Saturday afternoon 16th March at 2pm. Enjoy drinking with china cups from teapots filled with cocktails served by our male Rotarians in aprons! Enjoy sandwiches, scones and cakes from the cake stands, the games and company as well. Get your tickets from Henrick on 07739080460.
