It includes so much detail about Kelly Slaters life and what he is all about doing. The book tells about the bulk of his comptitive career and all of the friends he has made while accomplishing his dreams as a pro surfer. One of my favorite things about this book is that Kelly Slater: For the Love had small interviews from friends sharing what they think of Kelly and how they were friends. I could not stop reading this book and I thought it was amazing. I would definitely recommend this book This book is really great. Everytime i kept reading articles and interviews about his motivation for a contest or tournament it really motivated me to go out there and do it myself. When this happens most of the time, it's usually because I wasn't yet ready at that time to read it or my head was elsewhere on other subjects or interests. That happened with this book by Kelly Slater. I first bought it back when it hit the shelves in orbut only now in did I read and finish this book. The time was right for me to dive into the contents. This is the second book I often buy books which then sit for months or years on my bookshelf, waiting for me Kelly Slater: For the Love open and begin. This is the second book by Kelly Slater I have read. While the first book of his was his autobiography, he calls this one his scrapbook. That's an apt description. This book is filled with pictures from his very storied surfing career which range from hanging with friends to surfing some of the most exotic locations in the world to winning world titles to his views on politics and the environment. Kelly exposes a great deal of himself on the pages with his views of those pictures, not holding back on being critical of himself both on land and in the ocean. I will be honest that sometimes I was lost with his descriptions of surfing, but I generally got the gist of what he was saying or explaining. This guy knows surfing without a doubt and he truly loves it. The pictures included in this scrapbook are fantastic. There are beautiful shots of him taken by some of the best surf photographers in the world surfing waves from all over the world. The best photos are the candids where he is just palling around with his surf buddies, strumming the guitar or kicking back around a campfire. His photos from fashion Kelly Slater: For the Love are also eye-catching and revealing. Slater is a very handsome man, and the camera captures the intelligence in his eyes and his joy for his life. This is a great scrapbook which I am sure Slater will appreciate far in the future. His fans sure appreciate him and what he has brought to the world of surfing. He also highlights the points that to have good success in anything you aim to achieve in life you have to have respect and intuition. Kelly Slater is the all time world champion of surfing and has worked with all kinds of people and situations, so in his first autobiography he aimed to share his experience with his fans. He also delivers a wide expanse of stories of his great adventures in tropical islands in search for the perfect wave. His book also includes a wide expanse of interviews from his fellow surfers in which they talk about how kelly has affected the surfing world and themselves. As the book progresses so does his Kelly Slater: For the Love, starting from his childhood, the book works in chronological order. I enjoyed this book because i love surfing and the people who do it and how they made it so Kelly Slater: For the Love in the competitive world we live in. Kelly Slater - Wikipedia Robert Kelly Slater born February 11, is an American professional surfer, best known for his unprecedented 11 world surfing championships. Slater grew up in Cocoa BeachFloridawhere he still lives. He is the son of Judy Moriarity and Stephen Slater. The son of a bait -store proprietor, Slater grew up near the water, and he began surfing at age five. By age 10 he was winning age-division events up and down the Atlantic coast, Kelly Slater: For the Love in he won his first age-division United States championship title.     Surfing Florida: a Photographic History

    Daytona Beach, 1930s. This early photo represents the sport’s origins in Florida and includes waveriders Dudley and Bill Whitman, considered to be the State’s first surfers. Having met Virginia Beach lifeguards Babe Braith- wait and John Smith, who worked and demonstrated the sport in Miami Beach with Hawaiian style surfboards in the early 30s, Bill and Dudley proceeded to make their own boards out of sugar pine. Pioneer waterman Tom Blake showed up shortly thereafter and introduced the brothers – and much of the rest of the world – to his new hollow-core boards. The Whitman’s were quick to follow Blake’s lead and immediately abandoned their solid planks for the higher performance and lighter weight of hollow boards. Blake and the Whitmans remained close friends for life, and the Whitmans went on to foster major innovations and success in every aspect of their interests.     Surfing WORKSHEET A Surfing is something people often get hooked on after trying it a few times. For many surfers it is much more than a hobby – they would probably agree with the professional surfer Kelly Slater when he said, “Once you’re in, you’re in. There’s no getting out.” Surfing, of course, means riding on waves in the ocean using a surfboard. Many surfers stand up on their boards, which requires good balance and is therefore difficult for most beginners to learn, but some lie down (“bodyboarding”). The history of surfing probably began with the Polynesian people of the Pacific Islands. One of the first white people to see anyone surfing was the British explorer Captain Cook, when his ship arrived in Hawaii in 1778. He watched many Hawaiians riding waves on large pieces of wood, and saw that “they seem to feel a great pleasure.” When surfing started to become popular in the United States in the 1950s and 60s, surfers used large wooden boards (often more than 3 meters long) that were fairly heavy. Boards today are almost always shorter and also much lighter, because they are made of artificial materials instead of wood. For anyone who wants to try surfing, the only essential things are waves and a board. There are a few other things, however, that most surfers find important: a cord to attach one of their ankles to the board (and therefore stop the board going a long way away when they fall off); wax, which they put on the surface of the board to help their feet stick to it; and a wetsuit, to help them keep warm in cold water.

Professional female surfers, in particular, are drawing greater media attention than ever before and are seen by surf companies as the perfect vehicle to develop this global industry further. Because lifestyle branding has been developed as a modern marketing strategy, this thesis examines the lifestyle marketing practices of the three major surfing companies Billabong, Rip Curl and Quicksilver/Roxy through an investigation of the sponsorship experiences of fifteen sponsored female surfers. The research paradigm guiding this study is an interpretive approach that applies Doris Lessing’s (1991) concept of conformity and Michel Foucault’s (1979) notion of surveillance and the technologies of the self. An ethnographic approach was utilised to examine the main research purpose, namely to: determine the impact of lifestyle marketing by Billabong, Rip Curl and Quicksilver/Roxy on sponsored female surfers.
