  • Outdoor Recreational Needs & the Hunter Lake Opportunity Illinois
Outdoor Recreational Needs & The Hunter Lake Opportunity Illinois Department of Natural Resources December 3, 2018 Introduction In 2015, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) entered into agreement with the City of Springfield to manage city-owned property surrounding the City’s proposed secondary water supply (Hunter Lake). The City has already acquired 7,138 acres for the project located in southeastern Sangamon County. The lake is expected to cover 2,560 surface-acres with water. Outdoors recreation generates about $32 billion in economic activity each year for the State of Illinois, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. All this activity supports 90,000 jobs statewide. As the population of the United States continues its gradual migration from rural to urban areas (U.S. Census Bureau), demand for recreational land, open space and hunting and fishing opportunities will continue to grow. With 95 percent of Illinois land in private hands, the state ranks 46th in terms of land in public ownership. The IDNR owns and manages about 480,000 acres. The partnership between the City and IDNR is intended to provide additional public access for outdoor recreation, education and habitat conservation on Hunter Lake and its surrounding area. The City concluded the IDNR is the appropriate state agency to help the City achieve this objective. IDNR has statutory authority to manage the state’s fish and wildlife resources. To this end, the City chose to enter a Memorandum of Cooperation with IDNR (Appendix A) and tasked the Agency with managing the property’s outdoors potential for recreational opportunity, including hunting, fishing, bird-watching, biking, hiking and camping.

  • What Do We Do at Camp! That's a Great Question
What do we do at camp! That’s a great question. All of the NCAC camps follow a yearly theme. On top of that, camps execute a program based on the facilities and amenities that their location affords. Goose Creek Day Camp runs: Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Friday is a half day from 9:00 pm – 2:00 pm Twilight Camp runs Monday through Thursday from 6:30 pm – Dusk (~9:00 pm) Both Day and Twilight camp are held at the Loudoun County Fairgrounds west of Leesburg. We are now back after a brief absence, the location offers better amenities and feels like a true Scout Camp! The Fairgrounds offer a large building for gathering with a paved floor. The Big Barn serves as the central location for scouts and an emergency shelter. Throughout the Fairgrounds we offer stations for the scouts to engage in exciting activities. All stations are under permanent shelter, some augmented by shade canopies that can accommodate all participants at that station. We keep the campers out of the sun as much as possible. At Day Camp we run (6) 50 minute stations per day that offers: Sports, Crafts, Science, BB-Guns, Archery/Sling Shots, a special First Aid program, and Den Time. Here’s what the scouts do in each station: 1. Sports: One of the Aims of Scouting is personal fitness. While the Sports Belt loops have been discontinued, we will still offer both team and individual sports. This is to be inclusive of all participants. We also run a variety of sports, some specific to the days, some available all week.

  • Zombie Apocalypse Survivor
ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE SURVIVOR Contact > Kevin Harrison [email protected] m 917.940.0415 o 212.965.1529 x1011 NY CA ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE SURVIVOR THE SHOW Zombie Apocalypse Survivor is a series that turns the genre of the competition reality show on its head by combining the ever popular world of the Zombie movie with the real life challenges of a competitive obstacle race. In each episode we put a group of contestants through an onslaught of zombie themed survival challenges and let them battle it out to become the last standing Zombie Apocalypse Survivor and claim their cash prize. How many times have you watched a movie with someone who can’t shut up about how the characters are “doing it all wrong?” In Zombie Apocalypse Survivor the participants will “live” the movie and get to put their brains, brawn, and survival skills where their mouths are. Viewers at home will enjoy watching the Zombie themed challenges play out, as they identify with various participants and their approaches to the challenges as well as their interactions with each other in this fun, frightening, and fantastic world. THE TONE With this unique space we have the option to take the show in a variety of different directions in regards to tone. One direction could be in the more serious, eerie tone of the traditional zombie horror lm- a combination of “The Walking Dead” and “Survivor,” where not only is a cash prize on the line, but so is your life. The other direction would be in the direction of the recent trend in whimsical Zombie comedy lms- a combination of the lm “Zombie Land” and “Wipe Out, where we compete yet also have fun with the genre.

  • Where to Go Camping Guide
WHERE TO GO CAMPING GUIDE Created By: Pachsegink Lodge #246 BSA Affairs Department May 2010 1 MAQUOKETA CAVES STATE PARK 10970 98th St. Maquoketa, IA 52060 563-652-5833 Reservations: 877-427-2757 Maquoketa Caves State Park has more caves than any other park in Iowa. There are over a dozen caves, although most of them are small, and require a bit of wriggling to explore. This is a great park to learn the basics of caving, and is appropriate for any age scout. The limestone caves and bluffs are very scenic, and the park has beautiful trails to hike, for those non- cavers. Dance Hall Cave is the largest cave in the park, and in most areas, you won’t even have to bend over to walk through this cave. (See photo on left) Some of the more fun caves, however, are the ones that are challenging to enter. The park also boasts a natural bridge, which spans across the canyon 50 feet above Raccoon Creek. Wye cave is also very large once you get past the entrance. It floods frequently, but when it is not flooded, it is one of the most cavernous caves in the park, and perfect for those scouts that love to explore. Directions from Council: Take Ogden west for 1.6 miles to I-294 north. Take I-294 north for 1.5 miles to I-88 west. Take I-88 west for 103 miles to Exit 36 toward US-30W/Clinton Continue to follow US-30W for 44 miles to US-61 north Take US-61 north for 21 miles to Exit 312A toward Cedar Rapids/Maquoketa Turn Left onto CR-Y31 and travel 6 miles to 98th St.

Danny “The Count” Koker doesn’t just love hot rods and choppers. He lives for them. Whether it’s a ’63 Corvette, a classic Thunderbird, a muscle-bound Trans Am, or a yacht-sized Caddy, he knows these high-performance beauties inside and out. What’s more, he’ll do anything it takes to get his hands on those he likes – he’s known for pulling over cars he passes on the road and offering cash for them on the spot, or for using a retailer’s PA system to lure a car owner back to the parking lot to make a deal – and then “flip” them for a profit. Danny and the crew from Count’s Kustoms, his Vegas-based auto repair business, are behind the wheel again for a new season of COUNTING CARS, premiering Tuesday, April 9 at 9pm ET on HISTORY. The heat is on as the boys buy, trick out and re-sell classic cars, bikes and more. Danny is obsessed, so the more rides he buys, the faster they have to move to keep Count’s Kustoms in business. This season’s projects span all eras of cars, trucks, bikes and trikes. They’ll be working with Ziggy Marley to restore and customize Bob Marley’s last car, a 1980 Mercedes 500SL Euro; and customizing a soap box derby car for a youngster.
