University of Wyoming Postgame Football Notes Following a 22-19 Win Over Colorado State on Dec. 3, 2011

Team Notes - With a win at Colorado State this season, the current Cowboy squad became the first Wyoming team to defeat Colorado State in three consecutive seasons since 1987, ‘88 and ‘89 under head coach Paul Roach. - The last time Wyoming won back-to-back games in Fort Collins were the 1996 and ‘98 seasons. - Wyoming has not appeared in two bowl games in a three-year span since 1988-90. Wyoming appeared in the 1988 Holiday Bowl in San Diego as the Western Athletic Conference Champion and appeared in the 1990 Copper Bowl in Tucson, Ariz., two years later. - The last time Wyoming defeated both Front Range rivals Air Force and Colorado State in the same season was 1996, when the Cowboys posted a 10-2 record and a 7-1 conference record on its way to a No. 22 national ranking in both the Associate Press media poll and USA Today Coaches’ Poll under head coach Joe Tiller. - The last times that Wyoming won seven games were the 2009 and 2004 seasons. Wyoming went to a and won a bowl game in each of those seasons to get to seven wins, after winning six games in the regular season. Wyoming won the 2009 New Mexico Bowl to post a 7-6 record and won the 2004 to post a 7-5 mark. - The last time Wyoming won seven regular-season games was the 1999 seasons when the Pokes posted a 7-4 regular-season record. - The last time Wyoming won eight games in a season was 1998, when the Cowboys posted an 8-3 record. - Since becoming a member in 1999, this was the first time that the Cowboys had been 4-1 through five conference games. - Junior running back Alvester Alexander’s 36-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave him 27 total for his career, which moved him into the No. 3 slot on UW’s all-time rushing TDs list. - The 80-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Brett Smith to freshman wide receiver Josh Doctson was the Pokes’ longest play from scrimmage this season. - With his 281 total yards, Smith moved into fifth place on UW’s single-season top-10 list for total offense, passing Craig Burnett (1987). Smith now has 3,140 total yards on the season. - Smith also moved up the Mountain West Conference Freshman Total Offense list on Saturday, moving to No. 3 on the season passing yards list. Smith now has 2,495 yards through the air, passing Andy Dalton (TCU).
