Armed Forces Day messages -- From the President For most Americans Armed Forces Day is a once-year event, but to you who serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, every day is Armed Forces Day. Whether you are on a lonely hilltop outpost in Korea, serving in that urban island of freedom known as West Berlin, patrolling the high seas, unloading cargo planes at Diego Garcia, turning eager youngsters into proud Marines, or rescuing small water craft off our nation's coasts, you all serve America and serve it well. We are proud of you - proud and grateful. As Commander-in-Chief, I assure you I will not waver in my commitment to providing America with the strongest, best trained, best equipped, and most modern Armed Forces possible. Let no one have any doubts on that score, I salute all of you today and every day for your very special contribution to Keeping America Free.

Ronald Reagan From the Secretary of Defense On Armed Forces Day each year, all of us take a close and personal look at our men and women in uniform and the equipment they operate in serving our country. I know that most citizens come away impressed with the quality of the Servicemembers they meet and the capabilities of the combat systems that American industry provides. I know too, that they are deeply grateful, as I always am, for your dedication and your commitment to the eternal vigilance we must maintain to keep our freedom. On this Armed Forces Day of 1986,1 hope you can sense, as I do that all Americans have a renewed pride and confidence in their Armed Forces and in the achievements of our men and women in uniform. This is a tremendous accomplishment, which you youl.selves achieved through sacrifice and stead Fastness. Our Armed 1, ,fires today are strong, capable, and ready to perform any mission in the pursuit of peace and the defense of our nation. Not only on this one day of the year, but on all other. days as well, you have the profound gratitude of our citizens and of all freedom-loving peoples.

Caspar W. Weinberger Secretary of Defense From the Commandant of the Marine Corps On this Armed Forces Day, a grateful America pays tribute to your. professionalism. As Marines, you can stand tall knowing that you'remain a vital part of our Nation's Force-in-Readiness. Through your selfless devotion, our Corps continues to uphold the special trust and confidence the American people have placed in us. Your superb training and total dedication to duty have moved each of you to the forefront of our national defense.' I commend all Marines and sailors whose contributions to safeguarding our freedom are reflected in the highest degree of combat readiness the Corps has ever known. Along with the patriotic men and women in our sister services, you have formed a bond of strength that will enable our country to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. As you perform your duties, I ask that each of you rededicate yourselves to a motto which has served as an inspiration for over 210 years ... Semper Fidelis ... always faithful. Good luck and best wishes to each of you. and to your families.
