STATE OF ALASKA THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE GOVERNOR OF ALASKA HAS AWARDED THE ALASKA GOVERNOR'S DISTINGUISHED UNIT CITATION

TO 206TH COMBAT COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON, , ALASKA

FOR exceptional performance and mission support from I July 1996 to 31 March 2008. During this period, the 206th Combat Communications Squadron built a superb legacy as one of the premier deployable communications units in the Pacific theater. The squadron performed admirably in its core mission ofproviding crucial information technology services to any customer in deployed and austere environments. The unit deployed to the far reaching comers ofthe globe in support ofJoint Chiefs of Staff exercises, including COBRA GOLD in Thailand, KEEN SWORD in Japan, TANDEM THRUST in Guam and ULCm FOCUS LENS in Korea, earning rave reviews from the exercise directors and the joint, coalition and service partners for superior communications activities. On the home front, the 206th deployed several times within the state of Alaska in support of Exercise NORTHERN EDGE, improving the homeland security and defense posture ofthe nation, as well as providing excellent communications services to the Alaska National Guard while standing up its Joint Operations Center for the first time and executing the farthest north deployment ofthe Air Force's newest tri-band satellite communications terminal. In addition, over seventy percent ofunit personnel heeded the nation's call in the Global War on Terror and volunteered for multiple deployments to Southwest Asia, where they supported over thirty thousand combat sorties while in harm's way. The distinctive accomplishments of the members of the 206th Combat Communications Squadron reflect great credit upon themselves, the Air National Guard, and the state ofAlaska.
