4571 MATTERS ARISING from the Minutes

a) 014DF Beckingham All Saints [Grade II* - 12th Century] Architect: Mr G W Smith Local Authority: Bassetlaw To undertake repairs to the Chancel wall and the East Window - AA 3/9/2018 1 To undertake urgent repairs to the east and south walls of the Chancel and the removal, repair and refitting of the East window 2 East Window: Whilst the lead matrix of the window remains reasonably firm in situ, the removal of all the panels for structural masonry works will compromise the strength of the panels. 3 The dismantling and re-leading of the panels will allow the long-term repair of the large number of cracks thal resulted from the bomb damage in 1941 and will enable the elimination of the structural rifts in the panels. 4 To replace the existing ferrous tie-bars with new architectural brass tie-bars 5 To re-fix the wire guards with new stainless steel fixings and screws. 6 On completion of the conservation works a standard post-conservation report to be produced. The report to detail the treatments used and the extent of any interventions, a care and maintenance plan, and a photographic record of the project 7 Chancel Wall Repairs: Deep point all cracks with lime mortar as specified by architect; cintec ties to be installed by contractor licenced by Cintec 8 All in accordance with Report on Structural Movement dated 1 February 2018 from Mr G W Smith, Church Architect and drawings P463/01 & 03 and specification from Capstone Consulting Engineers, Buxton, Derbyshire Deferred. Awaiting revised specification from architect once extent of the work is known

b) 075F Gedling All Hallows [Grade I - 13th Century] Architect: Mr B P Bradley Local Authority: Gedling Timber Treatment (List B) - AA 3/9/2018 1 To undertake timber treatment to the north aisle roof along with 2 pews and a bookcase 2 All accessible exposed roof timber surfaces are to be prepared and insecticidal fluid is to be applied to all such exposed surfaces 3 Church Pews: Evidence of infestation by Common Furniture Beetle was present; Slight to moderate infestations were noted to two church pews

4 To minimise risks of further infestations we would highly recommend these pews are disposed of or removed from the church; Due to the timbers being varnished our treatment will be ineffective and will not penetrate the timber 5 All in accordance with Survey Report and Proposal dated 16 July 2018 from Peter Cox Ltd, Lincoln Noted. Work already undertaken

c) 092BW Keyworth St Mary Magdalene [Grade I - 13th Century] Architect: Mr G A Renton Local Authority: Area for Cremated Remains - AA 3/9/2018 1 To set aside an area for cremated remains and to permit the burial of cremated remains within existing graves in the churchyard 2 The proposal is to regularise a practice set up before the closure of the churchyard in 2011 3 To the east of the church and to the north side near the Vestry there are already some cremated remains delineated by existing paths 4 To create an extra area for cremated remains north of the current vestry for which no markers will be permitted and continue using the existing Book of Remembrance held in the church 5 All in accordance with burial plan of churchyard and plan for cremated remains and details provided No objection

a) 126BM Newark St Mary Magdalene [Grade I - 15th Century] Architect: Mr P McFarlane Local Authority: Newark & Sherwood World War One Tommy Silhouettes 28/9/2018 1 To commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War One by erecting two Tommy Silhouettes in the Church East End Memorial Garden 2 Silhouettes to be placed either side of the existing path leading to the existing war memorial as indicated on the drawing 3 Silhouettes to be 6ft aluminium, weighing 11kg and only 6mm thick, standing on a 500mm x 500mm base plate with four pre-drilled holes to enable bolting or pegging into the ground 4 All in accordance with drawings and details provided from 'Therebutnotthere.org.uk' and photos provided No objection subject to: that any human remains that may be disturbed during excavation and building shall be lifted from the place where they are found and shall thereafter be re-interred at the same place but at a deeper level if this is possible or alternatively at some other place in the churchyard in a discreet and seemly manner at the direction of the Incumbent.

b) 208BX Bleasby St Mary [Grade II - 13th Century] Architect: Mr M Goodwill-Hodgson Local Authority: Newark & Sherwood Relocation of Memorial Slab 28/9/2018 1 To raise and relocate the memorial slab to John Sheepshanke and Simon Sachell from a flat position in churhcyard to the external north transept wall 2 To lift slab carefully with hand tools and lever it onto raised wooden runners 3 Lift onto a trolley using a portable gantry with a block and tackle 4 Clean with clean water and a bristle brush 5 Move into position next to the wall and raise into place using a cantilevered gantry 6 Slab to be held against wall using four substantial 316 grade stainless steel flat bar cramps (circa 30x8mm in section) to be bent around the front face of it not too damaging, set into rebates in the stone edge 7 Cramps to be set about 200mm back into the wall, set into joint lines in the stone walling, bars fish-tailed and fixed into the wall using Hilti HY epoxy resin; holes made good using lime mortar 8 All in accordance with specification and quotation dated 10 June 2018 from Skillingtons, Grantham, Lincs No objection

DAC would prefer for historical accuracy for the current roll of honour to have the additional names added on rather than produce a new document

c) 139BH Nottingham St Mary the Virgin [Grade I - 12th Century] Architect: Mr P C Rogan Local Authority: Nottingham Security Gates to Boiler Room 28/9/2018 1 To manufacture and install a security gate to prevent unauthorised access down the external steps leading to the boiler room 2 New iron gate the be fabricated out of 30x30cm box section and 12mm solid square vertical bars with a railheads welded above each of the vertical bars across the top and centre of the gate 3 Gate to be fixed to the church wall and lock against the retaining wall with a key lock 4 All metal work will be finished galvanised and powder coated black 5 Gate to be 1400mm high by 590mm wide 6 All in accordance with drawing, specification and quotation dated 19 September 2018 from South Notts Fabrications, Nottingham No objection subject to: Local Planning Authority to be consulted to determine whether planning permission is required and written confirmation with faculty petition to be lodged with the Registry. d) 152W Nottingham St Saviour [Grade II - 1864] Architect: Mr B P Bradley Local Authority: Nottingham Disposal of Choir Stalls 28/9/2018 1 To dispose of the redundant choir stalls whose removal has already been approved by a previous faculty 2 Stalls to be sold and/or disposed of as appropriate 3 This forms part of an overall aim to free up the Chancel space to enable more faith based activities and worship 4 All in accordance with photos and details provided No objection subject to: Choir stalls should not be destroyed, request they are sold, rehoused or re-used. e) 166CM Radcliffe-on-Trent St Mary [Grade II - reb. 1858 & 1879] Architect: Mr A J Joyce Local Authority: Rushcliffe Churchyard Entrance Signs 28/9/2018 1 To replace the current entrance sign with 2no identical signs in a V formation to improve visibility from both entrances 2 Signs to be 1500mm x 1200mm set in a V formation; design and artwork as provided in white lettering on a blue background with the Church of England logo centrally at the bottom 3 Signs printed onto Dibond, an aluminium composite material, supplied complete with clear protective film 4 Signs 4mm thick flat panels with bolt channel and powder coated aluminium posts 5 All in accordance with specification and quotation dated 11 May 2018 from Shelley Signs, Harlescott, Shrewsbury, Shropshire and photographs and Statements of Significance and Need provided and dated September 2018 No objection subject to: (1) 'Welcome' on the sign should be a small 'w' (2) The boards may need planning permission and advertising consent. f) 166CM Radcliffe-on-Trent St Mary [Grade II - reb. 1858 & 1879] Architect: Mr A J Joyce Local Authority: Rushcliffe Digital Projection System 1/10/2018 1 To install a new digital projection system to replace the existing 2 System to comprise a high quality AV projection and monitor screen system for day/night use featuring an LCD projector with 7,500 lumens brightness 3 Main screen fitted to electric winch positioned behind the chancel arch when not in use 4 4 x 43" LED monitors for side aisles and 1 x foldback 49" monitor for the band; monitors to be attached to the vertical section of the columns above the capitols, using a multi-arm bracket for correct orientation; fixings to be into mortar joints if appropriate or into the stonework for heavier items 5 Existing PA console to be used for connections for HDMI and VGA inputs and also for all main switching and distribution equipment 6 Audio from AV sources connected to PA system 7 Discreet installation for all cabling and hardware 8 Scheme includes for removal of existing screen behind chancel arch and manual winch system 9 All in accordance with specification and quotation dated 4 June 2018 from DM Church Sound & Audio Visual Installations, Harpenden, Herts and Statements of Significance and Need both dated September 2018 No objection subject to: Church Architect to be consulted and approve proposals for wiring and cable runs; wiring to be coloured to blend in with background.

• Dr Mike Hawkes informed the DAC of the increase in lead thefts in Leicester diocese including several recent ones on Tower roofs. • Dr Mike Hawkes requested that photographs are taken of plumber’s marks for historic records and this could also be useful for Crime Prevention. The DAC Secretary suggested he would communicate this to architects on the DAC list • Graeme Renton reminded the committee of the funds available for repairs to churches from the Notts Historic Churches Trust
