6 Café and Gift Shops may close up to an hour before the gardens A very warm welcome to Muncaster Thank you for visiting. The Castle dates from the medieval age and sits majestically watching over the highest mountains in . Built centuries ago by the Pennington family to guard this strategic point where the mountains tumble into the sea, it protects the important river crossings. Historically a place of defence and safety it has always been a focus for the local community as well as offering good employment. This is especially so today in this A “Raptor Experience” in the isolated rural area. Hawk & Owl Centre

In these more peaceful times the gardens offer breath-taking views and are home to wonderful plants from all over the world but especially rhododendrons from the Sino-Himalayan regions. The wild gardens and surrounding landscapes are superb wildlife habitats and are home to the Hawk & Owl Centre, whose aim is to help visitors enjoy the natural world on which we all depend. The Pennington family welcome you to this magical place and along with our loyal and hardworking staff will strive to ensure you enjoy your visit. We receive no external revenue funding and have to care for Muncaster through the income we receive from visitors so thank you for being here today. However it is a constant battle to maintain the Castle and all its facilities and attractions. We are a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation and if surplus funds are generated they are re-invested into the care and conservation of the historic buildings, surrounding gardens and Hawk & Owl Centre for the enjoyment of future generations of visitors. If you like what you see and what we do and wish to help more, there are many ways to do so and not all of them involve money! • Please tell friends & family and encourage them to visit. • Review us on TripAdvisor or Google and share your favourite pictures of us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and other social media options. • If you are local or come to the Lake District frequently, why not become a ‘Friend of Muncaster’? This allows regular access to Muncaster for a year. • Next time come and stay! B&B onsite or at the Pennington Hotel in Ravenglass. • Donations for our conservation projects in the Castle, gardens and wider estate are appreciated. • Book a “Raptor Experience” for a personal bird encounter with an expert Falconer. • Adopt one of the birds and your name will be honoured on its aviary for a year. • Volunteer to help in the Castle, Gardens or Hawk & Owl Centre. • Tell us what we do well & what we could do better. Please remember we have limited resources. • Romantic Muncaster is a superb setting for weddings, family celebrations or business events. Details of these options are available from Reception or the shops or look online at www.muncaster.co.uk Once again, thank you for visiting today. It is much appreciated. The Pennington Family
