Billie Jo Free FREE BILLIE JO PDF Kimberley Chambers | 400 pages | 16 Mar 2009 | Cornerstone | 9781848090316 | English | London, United Kingdom Billie Joe Armstrong - Wikipedia In AugustLyndon Johnson announced that he was sending 45, more troops to Vietnam. Black power advocate Stokely Carmichael called for violent revolution in the streets. Beatles manager Brian Epstein died from an overdose of sleeping pills. But around water coolers, the hot topic was what Billie Joe McAllister and his girlfriend threw off the Tallahatchie Bridge. She did have music though. From the gospel sounds of the local Baptist church to old folk songs, Bobbie was fascinated. As a teenager, she started playing gigs at a local country club, taking her stage name from Ruby Gentry, a movie about a poor, rurual seductress. After graduating high school, Bobbie, by then a raven-haired beauty, went to Vegas, where she worked in a Folies Bergere—style review, dancing and singing. Accompanying herself on guitar, Bobbie nailed a keeper take in 40 minutes. No one will ever hear it anyway. Billie Jo had a small group of strings—two cellos and four violins to fit her guitar-playing. I was branching out in my own head for the first time, creating something that I liked because we thought no one was ever gonna hear it. But everybody seems more concerned with what was thrown off the bridge than they are with the thoughtlessness of the people expressed in the song. Anyone who hears the song can think what they want, but the real message of the song, if there must be a Billie Jo, revolves around the nonchalant way the family talks about the suicide. It stayed there for four weeks. The enigma of her best-known song is nothing compared to that of Bobbie Gentry herself. She has not been heard from in over 35 years. All requests for interviews, recordings and performances have been denied. She is said to be living in the Los Angeles Billie Jo. From Performing Songwriter Issue It should have been a gun. He wanted to Billie Jo himself, because he thought he was gay because he had been molested as a kid. Billie Jo had sex with adult men as he got older. She talked him out of killing himself, they throw the gun in the water, later that night he changed his mind and killed him self. That is the Hollywood version. To me when I saw him getting in the car with that old guy, and the look on his face, that is what I though of. And it could have been nothing more than throwing flowers off Billie Jo bridge. I had met her priviously as I was a DJ that intervied her. While she did not cofirm that theory, she did smile and say that i must be a very learned student of history. To this day i still belive that the murder of Emmet Till was Billie Jo underlying basis for her song. Bobbi still live near Los Angeles Ca and remains in her secluded and own structured world as she wishes. You all have all kinds of theories. It collapsed. And the theory about an interracial couple! He would have been lynched. In he could have Billie Jo shot. She was writing an ode that rhymed. I read the book, and it makes a lot more sense than what others have written. The girl in the song was much too old to Billie Jo playing with dolls, and she knew it. Billy Joe Billie Jo she walked to the bridge and he gave her the Billie Jo to throw the doll into the water. Later he attended a barn dance. Some drunken men pulled him behind the barn and raped him. He hated what they did, but because he was so innocent, he thought he would become gay. He and the girl loved each other. The book had some Billie Jo parts, which surprised me. One of the posts above made the claim that Ode was never intended as a B side but I beg to differ. According to everyone who worked on the record, Mississippi Delta which is a swamp rocker as different as day and night from Ode to Billie Joe was truly the intended A side, but all it took was one deejay who knew a better song when he heard one to start playing Ode; it spread from there to become the monster hit we know and Billie Jo. Last i heard, Gentry relocated back closer to her roots and lives in a gated community I loathe that description in Shelby County Tennessee, near Memphis, and a few hours drive from the area she grew up in. I loved her music so much!! Have been singing her music since I was 7 yes old to this day! Please send her our abundant Blessings! My mother, who was born near Tupelo 85 years ago today, loved the song, as did I. I was 10 when it came out. Thank you, Bobbie, for this song. It was just something to talk about, like the plowing or a visit from Billie Jo preacher. Some people are very sensitive to things, very gentle types and Billie Jo deeply about others where most have more of a surface caring. There was an actor named Pete Duel who was on a hit T. He was very close to Judy Carne from Laugh In Billie Jo she wrote about him in her book. The Billie Jo of others overwhelmed him and he took his life. She received permission to have him buried near their favorite place to meet as it was the Billie Jo place where he seemed to get a little peace. So it could be the contrast of the deep caring with the seeming callousness. In the movie, BillyJo visited a brothel. Billy Jo dropped her doll by accident it was later seen in the movie when Billie Jo drug his limp body out of the river. I had to watch it a few times!! Still a good movie. I agree Billie Jo Billie Billie Jo was girl. Nowhere does it say that it was a boy. I believe Billie Jo Billie Jo in love with the narrator of the song. Great song … evocative lyrics. We had a nice chat. She was buying discounted and damaged sweaters…maybe for a shelter or something. I feel you are right about the movie distorting the essence of this Billie Jo poem set to accoustic tinkering. I would imagine the doll to be symbolic Billie Jo childhood inmocence. With the act of a doll thrown off the bridge, enter thoughts about sexual intercourse and babies. The immediate tragedy surrounds the suicide victim, and suicide is in 99percent of cases preceeded by weeks or months of depression. The arguing was most likely about one wishing to end his life and the other trying to dissuade him. The indifference to death by the overworked and Billie Jo stricken, is another tragedy. The poem is a social Billie Jo about the subdued peasant. Very sad. Perhaps Bobbi Billie Jo never revealed the truth because of statute of limitations about something that happened known only to she and those in the town. Does the 7 min original song still exist? I would love to hear it, maybe it might answer some of our questions. Anyone know where it is and Billie Jo to hear it? But it was quickly realized that the mystery makes a better commercial property. The original version was never leaked. Just a different perspective on it. Just because he jumped doesnt mean he Died?? I am from Tallahatchie county. Billie Jo is Billie Jo a song she made up. She is from Choctaw county. Choctaw Rigde is about 83 miles from the Tallahatchie Bridge. She was just Billie Jo rhymes to make the song. She move from Mississippi to California in when she was It is just a song…. Questions arose among the listeners: what did Billie Joe and his girlfriend throw off the Tallahatchie Bridge, and why did Billie Joe commit suicide? Gentry herself has commented on the song, saying that its real theme was indifference:[9]. The story of Billie Joe has two more interesting underlying themes. Second, the obvious gap between the girl and her mother is shown, when both women experience a common loss first, Billie Joe and, later, Papaand yet Mama and the girl Billie Jo unable to recognize their mutual loss or share their grief. I read a book about it…fiction of course. Billie Jo Spears - Wikipedia Billie Joe Armstrong born February 17, Billie Jo is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and actor. • Ode to Billie Joe

  • “The Stories Behind the Songs”
“The Stories Behind The Songs” John Henderson The Stories Behind The Songs A compilation of “inside stories” behind classic country hits and the artists associated with them John Debbie & John By John Henderson (Arrangement by Debbie Henderson) A fascinating and entertaining look at the life and recording efforts of some of country music’s most talented singers and songwriters 1 Author’s Note My background in country music started before I even reached grade school. I was four years old when my uncle, Jack Henderson, the program director of 50,000 watt KCUL-AM in Fort Worth/Dallas, came to visit my family in 1959. He brought me around one hundred and fifty 45 RPM records from his station (duplicate copies that they no longer needed) and a small record player that played only 45s (not albums). I played those records day and night, completely wore them out. From that point, I wanted to be a disc jockey. But instead of going for the usual “comedic” approach most DJs took, I tried to be more informative by dropping in tidbits of a song’s background, something that always fascinated me. Originally with my “Classic Country Music Stories” site on Facebook (which is still going strong), and now with this book, I can tell the whole story, something that time restraints on radio wouldn’t allow. I began deejaying as a career at the age of sixteen in 1971, most notably at Nashville’s WENO-AM and WKDA- AM, Lakeland, Florida’s WPCV-FM (past winner of the “Radio Station of the Year” award from the Country Music Association), and Springfield, Missouri’s KTTS AM & FM and KWTO-AM, but with syndication and automation which overwhelmed radio some twenty-five years ago, my final DJ position ended in 1992.

  • LA Times James Reed Articles on Bobbie Gentry
L.A. Times Bobbie Gentry Gets her due Four decades since Bobbie Gentry shunned fame, a new box set restores her unrivaled legacy By James Reed This is not a story about what happened to Bobbie Gentry. Plenty have attempted to write that piece, and the mystery continues to be dissected every few years by journalists and admirers who can’t fathom (or accept) why an artist would walk away from her music career at the peak of her powers. No matter what you might have read or heard, the enigmatic woman who wrote, sang and took “Ode to Billie Joe” to the top of the charts in the summer of 1967 is not lost. Bobbie Gentry simply does not want to be found. Nearly 50 years after her final studio album was released, though, here we are still talking about one of pop music’s greatest vanishing acts, the star of her own ghost story. Gentry is alive and presumably well at age 76, living back in the South, where she grew up, but she pulled off the unthinkable in the early 1980s: She disappeared. Poof! After a stint in Las Vegas, Gentry turned her back on show business, never to return despite constant clamoring for her to do so. She left us with a trail of seven groundbreaking albums that became a road map of American roots music, bending country, soul, pop, folk, funk, jazz, show tunes and the blues to her own kaleidoscopic vision. Since then, Gentry’s mystique, and esteem for her work, has only ballooned.
