TO THE NOBILES & LADIES OF TANGIER SHRINE Five years ago, the Nobility of Tangier voted to loan me the Recorder’s Fez. I put it that way because Amy and I always viewed this as more than an election – it is a special trust. Although few of you knew us all that well at the time, one of the greatest joys of serving on the Divan has been the opportunity to establish and build so many wonderful and enduring friendships. This adventure began with me having a lot to learn. I think I’ve picked up at least some of it, but the adventure would have quickly become a train wreck without the support and expertise of our magnificent Office Staff, five Illustrious Potentates and Divans, and countless Nobles and Ladies who have given of their time, treasure and abilities to make Tangier a shining example for all of Shrinedom. Of course, none of this would never have happened or been remotely successful without the encouragement, love and support I always had from my beautiful Lady Amy. So many of you have told me over the last thirteen months how much you miss her, and that means more than you could know. After her memorial service at Tangier, my brother told me that if anyone asked him why I would stay in Omaha, he would simply tell them that he just saw 200 reasons! He was right, but I realize now that I am ready to go home to St. Louis. The time has almost come for me to hand off the Recorder’s Fez to my more-than-able successor. I have every confidence that he, along with our new Oriental Guide and Trustee, will keep our leadership strong and help build a bright future for our Shrine. Although I won’t be physically around as much as I have been, Tangier is stuck with me as a member for life, and I look forward to sharing more good times in the months and years ahead. After all, where else can anyone have so much fun while doing so much good? Es Selamu Aleikum – Peace be on you!

With Brotherly Love & Friendship, Bob Schapp

What would you be willing to do to bring a reluctant Brother Noble and/ or his Lady back to Tangier?

Regardless of your personal opinion regarding the value of masks, would you wear one if it would cause a Brother Noble and/or his Lady to join you in our Shrine Life of Fun and Philanthropy? We are discovering that a number of our members are declining to come out and help with or even simply attend our events as they used to. They have specifically stated that this is due to their fear of COVID-19, and specifically the fear that others present will not be wearing masks.

We are discovering that a number of our members are declining to come out and help with or even simply attend our events as they used to. They have specifically stated that this is due to their fear of COVID-19, and specifically the fear that others present will not be wearing masks.

One of our most important responsibilities as members of the Tangier Shrine community is to make sure that our fellow Nobles, Ladies and visitors feel welcome, comfortable and safe when participating in our activities or visiting our building. 24
