October 22, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For more information contact Max Nacheman, CeaseFirePA Director Email: [email protected] or call 267-702-4859 CeaseFirePA Announces List of Endorsed State Candidates Endorsed candidates include Kathleen Kane for Attorney General, 45 candidates for the State House of Representatives and, six State Senate candidates PENNSYLVANIA – On Monday CeaseFirePA announced a slate of endorsed candidates for state offices in Pennsylvania, including Attorney General, State House, and State Senate. The endorsements come at the conclusion of an extremely active legislative session in Harrisburg. In 2012 CeaseFirePA blocked NRA efforts to obtain dangerous legislative initiatives including eliminating the state background check system, allowing concealed carry of firearms without a permit, and granting special legal status to gun owners and the gun lobby to use Pennsylvania courts to attack communities that have taken local action to crack down on illegal gun traffickers. At the same time, CeaseFirePA successfully worked with police and prosecutors to encourage legislators to finally extend an established mandatory minimum for repeat offenders of illegal firearms transfer – to straw purchasers who are convicted for the first time for straw buying more than one firearm. RESOLUTION NO. 2018-03 BOROUGH OF COLLEGEVILLE MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A CITIZENS COMMISSION FOR LEGISLATIVE AND CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING WHEREAS, the citizens of the Borough of Collegeville and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania deserve a fair, fully transparent, impartial and depoliticized process of the decennial drawing of state legislature and congressional districts of near equal population; and WHEREAS, legislative and congressional redistricting has at times resulted in gerrymandered districts that favor one political party over others; and WHEREAS, such gerrymandering of legislative and congressional districts has worked at times to the detriment of our representative democracy; and WHEREAS, the creation of a truly independent citizens redistricting commission devoid of political motivation or partisanship will: ensure a fair, transparent, and accurate legislative and congressional redistricting process that respects political subdivisions; prohibit districts from being drawn to favor or discriminate against a political party or candidate; require the use of impartial and sound methodology when setting district boundaries; require public input; and fully comply with the constitutional requirement that “no county, city, incorporated town, borough, township or ward” be divided “unless absolutely necessary,” and WHEREAS, legislation to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to reform the decennial legislative and congressional redistricting process with the intent of using fairness and sound methodology in
