Hunter x Hunter has always been a very distinctive manga compared to other Shonen mangas. Its world is not about one particular thing, you would think its just all about Hunters, but its also about Assassins, Elections, the Mafia, video game worlds, fighting tournaments, magical beasts, and auctions. Mangas like Naruto or One Piece have this very focused and simple story-telling where its mostly about fighting, friendship leads to power, and who could blow up the bigger continent. Hunter x Hunter gives off extremely descriptive dialogue about how to hunt, make money, make food, things that involve what we do in real life only with a more creative and complex way of expanding and improving upon it.The world isnt set in feudal japan, or in a life of piracy, or in a land of demons, but a very hard-to-describe world with many different type of of qualities and quantities that we actually only have scratched the surface of; the real world in Hunter x Hunter is a whole lot bigger than one would think from previous volumes (this has been confirmed in volume 32). The characters are astonishing, you begin to know exactly what they are capable of, their potential for future heights, and how they begin to learn and grow on this wonderful world of not just action/combat, but adventure and the unknown.The villains is also what makes this story so endearing, the bad guys are not ones who will try to destroy the world when they have the chance and the power to do so, but only attack and do the things they want to do for themselves; they are entirely self-interested and this is the greatest feature ever so notable in the story. The concept of Nen is complex and fun to engage, the battles are very fun, fast-paced, and not so overly-exaggerated like most (or all) Mangas in the Shonen category. This volume is about the election of a new chairman of the hunters association after the previous chairman died from a amazing battle with the chimera ant king, Meruem. While Killua, the deuteragonist of the story, needs to save Gon the protagonist.The art of Hunter x Hunter is very simple and at the time detailed. At the beginning it was somewhat bland and could use more work, but now, especially in this volume, the art/animation is very graceful and pleasing to the eye. Personally I adore Hunter x Hunters art than the crazy hard-to-grasp styles of most Mangas in general. The art covers are some of the best covers youll see in a while.This is a highly-recommended series to read and personally, my favorite manga series ever. You must buy this. Luffy and his crew is one of the most successful Japanese cultural products of all time. The first volume of One Piece was published in 1997 and it has been published weekly ever since. It has sold over 430.000.000 million copies worldwide (70.000.000 outside Japan) and it has set already years ago the world record for "The most copies published for the same comic book series, by a single author."1 Although One Piece is the most successful Japanese manga series there are many others -like Dragon Ball or Full Metal Alchemist 2 - with fans around the World, making Japanese manga not only a successful export product, but many believe also a source of Japanese soft power (Bouissou 2006).     Talking like a Shōnen Hero: Masculinity in Post-Bubble Era Japan through the Lens of Boku and Ore Hannah E. Dahlberg-Dodd The Ohio State University Abstract Comics (manga) and their animated counterparts (anime) are ubiquitous in Japanese popular culture, but rarely is the language used within them the subject of linguistic inquiry. This study aims to address part of this gap by analyzing nearly 40 years’ worth of shōnen anime, which is targeted predominately at adolescent boys. In the early- and mid-20th century, male protagonists saw a shift in first-person pronoun usage. Pre-war, protagonists used boku, but beginning with the post-war Economic Miracle, shōnen protagonists used ore, a change that reflected a shift in hegemonic masculinity to the salaryman model. This study illustrates that a similar change can be seen in the late-20th century. With the economic downturn, salaryman masculinity began to be questioned, though did not completely lose its hegemonic status. This is reflected in shōnen works as a reintroduction of boku as a first- person pronoun option for protagonists beginning in the late 90s. Garhwal University Uttarakhand Abstract One Piece is a Japanese Manga series drawn by Eiichiro Oda and published serially in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since July 1997 and continuing with the same popularity. It portrays the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, who dreams to become the Pirate King. He gained the properties of rubber after eating a Devil Fruit and is exploring the Grand Line along with his crewmates(The Straw Hat Pirates) in search of the eponymous legendary treasure 'One Piece' left by the former Pirate King Gol D. Roger. What makes this particular manga unique is Oda's representation of Japanese culture and tradition. He also uses some features similar to Ukiyo-e artworks, i.e., the woodblock art prints, which were targeted at the mass audience and also share thematic similarities. The influence of Ukiyo-e and Oda's love for Japanese art, along with its culture, folklore, and myths, is clearly seen in the ongoing Wano country arc. One Piece today has transcended the boundaries of manga, turning into a pop culture sensation in Japan. In the research paper, to apply the analytical and descriptive methods to the research, the original work, as well as the secondary sources available in the form of criticism, will be used. In my research, I will also try to apply the perspective of Cultural Studies.
