GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT ACTIVITY A.1 Title of the project activity PNOC Exploration Corporation (PNOC EC) Payatas Landfill Gas to Energy Project in the Philippines (the Project or the Project Activity) A.2 Description of the project activity The Project will utilize landfill gas (LFG), recovered from the Payatas dumpsite in Quezon City in the Philippines, for electricity generation. PNOC EC will install a gas extraction and collection system and build a 1 MW power plant in Payatas. The electricity generated by the Project will be sold to the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), which services Metro Manila and is also the country’s largest utility company. -

History of Quezon City Public Library
HISTORY OF QUEZON CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY The Quezon City Public Library started as a small unit, a joint venture of the National Library and Quezon City government during the incumbency of the late Mayor Ponciano Bernardo and the first City Superintendent of Libraries, Atty. Felicidad Peralta by virtue of Public Law No. 1935 which provided for the “consolidation of all libraries belonging to any branch of the Philippine Government for the creation of the Philippine Library”, and for the maintenance of the same. Mayor Ponciano Bernardo 1946-1949 June 19, 1949, Republic Act No. 411 otherwise known as the Municipal Libraries Law, authored by then Senator Geronimo T. Pecson, which is an act to “provide for the establishment, operation and Maintenance of Municipal Libraries throughout the Philippines” was approved. Mrs. Felicidad A. Peralta 1948-1978 First City Librarian Side by side with the physical and economic development of Quezon City officials particularly the late Mayor Bernardo envisioned the needs of the people. Realizing that the achievements of the goals of a democratic society depends greatly on enlightened and educated citizenry, the Quezon City Public Library, was formally organized and was inaugurated on August 16, 1948, with Aurora Quezon, as a guest of Honor and who cut the ceremonial ribbon. The Library started with 4, 000 volumes of books donated by the National Library, with only four employees to serve the public. The library was housed next to the Post Office in a one-storey building near of the old City Hall in Edsa. Even at the start, this unit depended on the civic spirited members of the community who donated books, bookshelves and other reading material. -

Located across the Pasig River from the walled city of Intramuros, Binondo was formally established in 1594, and is believed to be the oldest Chinatown in the world. Before World War II, Binondo was the center of the banking and financial community in the Philippines, housing insurance companies, commercial banks and other financial institutions from Britain and the United States. These banks were located mostly along Escólta, which used to be called the "Wall Street of the Philippines". Binondo remains a center of commerce and trade for all types of businesses run by Filipino- Chinese merchants and is famous for its diverse offerings of Chinese cuisine. Robielos School of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Mapua University Intramuros, Manila, Philippines [email protected] Nico Duran School of Information Technology Mapua University Intramuros, Manila, Philippines [email protected] Abstract This study analyzed the occurrence of robbery and theft in the City of Manila using discrete Bayesian network model. Using a 5-year data of robbery and theft in the City of Manila (with conviction), the results showed that February and July emerged as the months with highest probability of crime happening at 10.66 percent and lowest on April with 6.80 percent. In terms of crime happening on a week, the highest probability occurred on the 2nd week with 28.3 percent and lowest on the 5th week at 6.8 percent. Most of the crimes happened between 3PM to 6PM with 17 percent and lowest occurrence between 6AM to 9AM at 7.0 percent. Male population are more likely to be a victim of crime in almost all of the identified locations except for Pandacan where female population has a higher probability at 53 percent. With these information, a patrol priority location table was developed to show the location where the crime is more likely to happen in a particular time range of the day. Music in The Heart of Manila: Quiapo from the Colonial Period to Contemporary Times: Tradition, Change, Continuity Ma. Patricia Brillantes-Silvestre A brief history of Quiapo Quiapo is a key district of Manila, having as its boundaries the winding Pasig River and the districts of Sta. Cruz, San Miguel and Sampaloc. Its name comes from a floating water lily specie called kiyapo (Pistia stratiotes), with thick, light-green leaves, similar to a tiny, open cabbage. Pre-1800 maps of Manila show Quiapo as originally a cluster of islands with swampy lands and shallow waters (Andrade 2006, 40 in Zialcita), the perfect breeding place for the plant that gave its name to the district. Quiapo’s recorded history began in 1578 with the arrival of the Franciscans who established their main missionary headquarters in nearby Sta. Ana (Andrade 42), taking Quiapo, then a poor fishing village, into its sheepfold. They founded Quiapo Church and declared its parish as that of St. John the Baptist. The Jesuits arrived in 1581, and the discalced Augustinians in 1622 founded a chapel in honor of San Sebastian, at the site where the present Gothic-style basilica now stands. At about this time there were around 30,000 Chinese living in Manila and its surrounding areas, but the number swiftly increased due to the galleon trade, which brought in Mexican currency in exchange for Chinese silk and other products (Wickberg 1965). The Chinese, noted for their business acumen, had begun to settle in the district when Manila’s business center shifted there in the early 1900s (originally from the Parian/Chinese ghetto beside Intramuros in the 1500s, to Binondo in the 1850s, to Sta.Cruz at the turn of the century). -

It bears the culture of their citizens, not only with them but for every Filipinos. The purpose of this study is to show how Pancit Malabon defined the culture of their citizens and how it acquires its popularity. This study aims to know the importance of Pancit Malabon as part of urban heritage. Using ethnography, we were able to trace one of the first and original inventors of Pancit Malabon. We conducted a face-to-face interview with the inventor’s family. From generation to generation, Pancit Malabon can already be considered as their heritage and has contributed a lot in food tourism. It has also influenced the gastronomic culture of the people living in Malabon City. Pancit Malabon is not only a food everyone can eat but it is also a heritage every Malaboñan can be proud of. Pancit Malabon is a noodle dish that originated in Malabon, Metro Manila. This dish is like a 1. Flood Control Facilities 3.1.1.1. “Bombastik” Pumping Stations Being a narrow strip of land with a relatively flat terrain and with an aggregate shoreline of 12.5 kilometers that is affected by tidal fluctuations, flooding is a common problem in Navotas City. This is aggravated by pollution and siltation of the waterways, encroachment of waterways and drainage right-of-ways by legitimate and informal settlers, as well as improper waste disposal. The perennial city flooding inevitably became a part of everyday living. During a high tide with 1.2 meter elevation, some parts of Navotas experience flooding, especially the low-lying areas along the coast and riverways. As a mitigating measure, the city government - thru the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office - disseminates information about the heights of tides for a specific month. This results in an increased awareness among the residents on the time and date of occurrence of high tide. During rainy days, flooding reach higher levels. The residents have already adapted to this situation. Those who are well-off are able to install their own preventive measures, such as upgrading their floorings to a higher elevation. During the term of the then Mayor and now Congressman, Tobias M. Tiangco, he conceptualized a project that aims to end the perennial flooding in Navotas. Since Navotas is surrounded by water, he believed that enclosing the city to prevent the entry of water during high tide would solve the floods. -
