MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT April 29, 2021 Enlistees and Families, First, congratulations on the culmination of your High School career and the beginning of your enlistment. I remember what lead me to make the honorable choice you all have made. I was in college and our country had been attacked on 9/11. I knew then I had no choice but to do my duty and serve my country. That decision has been one of the greatest of my life. My time in the Army has given me some of the best friends and mentors I have ever met. Every day I wear my uniform and put on my Green Beret I remember those who came before me and those who will come after me. Our country is; and will remain free and prosperous due to young people like you. Our military is the strongest in the world, and that is due to the men and women who have taken the oath to serve. Our future is dependent on you and the values you will learn through service. Your time in the military will be the most rewarding years of your life. The trust and bonds you build with your fellow service members can never be replaced. You will be part of the best trained, best equipped military in the world. Your contributions will not go unnoticed, the pride of your service should fulfill you everyday. I look forward to serving with all of you. Congratulations, and welcome. Sincerely, SSG Matthew O. Williams Medal of Honor Recipient US ARMY UNITED STATES ARMY First to fight for the right, and to build the nation’s might, and the Army goes rolling along.
