Penang, 29 August 2018 – Staff of Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) forged closer ties with media friends through a badminton friendly match here.

Fourteen E&O staff and 14 press members from different vernacular were grouped together before they were divided into two teams.

Each E&O staff was paired with a press member during the competition held at the PBA courts in Bukit Dumbar. The tie was decided over five men’s doubles and two women’s double.

Team B got off to a good start after A. Tharman (E&O) and Kenny Teng () ousted Michael Leow (E&O) and Richard Ang () 21-18, 21-19.

Their teammates Tan Soon Keat (Guang Ming Daily) and Will Leow (E&O) went on to secure another point against Azeli Ali (Utusan) and Vincent Tan (E&O) in a three-set thriller 21-18, 16-21, 21-19.

In the third match, however, Cheah Shee Yin () and Micky Ong (E&O) subdued their team B rival Erma Idayu (Bernama) and Ng Lee Feng (E&O) in another three- set thriller 21-19, 15-21, 21-17.

Team A’s Tan Sin Chow (The Star) and Ang Sh Liang (E&O) then levelled at 2-2 when they crushed the partnership of Teh Chin Hooi () and Jonathan Yeoh (E&O) 21-9, 21-12.

Not giving in, team B’s Lim Seong Eng () and Ahmad Afif (E&O) went on to defeat Mikail Ong ( Press) and Sharul Irwan (E&O) 21-3, 21-18.

In the end, team B emerged triumphant with a 5-2 scoreline.

Later at the buffet dinner in E&O Hotel, players from the winning team each received four weekend buffet luncheon vouchers while Team A players each took home two weekend buffet luncheon vouchers.

Three lucky draw prizes - Panpuri Organic Spa Mali Moonlight soothing massage, E&O Hotel weekend buffet dinner for two and a one-night stay at the hotel’s studio suite – were also given away after the dinner.
