KCA TECHNICAL COLLEGE STRATEGY

2019-2023

1 Prof. Noah Midamba, Vice Chancellor, KCA University

2 Message from the Vice Chancellor KCA University having received it’s full charter in 2013, has proved to be a hub of knowledge with resourceful faculty who are well respected in their fields and are committed to students success and the community at large. Through their hard work we have channeled out employable graduates whose larger percentage has been consumed by the industry through full employment.

We embarked on this strategy design process to assess where we are, express where we want to be in the future and chart a clear way forward on how we will get there. The gradual paradigm shift towards TVET inspired our move so as to unravel ways to benefit from the resources being routed towards this course of solving youth unemployment.

Our vision, to be the leading TVET college providing quality and accessible training that is responsive to and focused on the needs and expectations of the industry, resonates closely with our desire to leverage the power of resources, technology and intellectual ability from the youth to find new ways of tapping into the underutilized youth population by leading innovation, development and rebranding TVET.

This strategic plan will act as a roadmap to guide us towards attaining our aspirations of maintaining a leading employability index, rebranding TVET to appeal to the youth, sustaining strong industry linkages and imparting relevant skills for the future.

I wish to thank everyone who contributed to the development of the strategic plan including our consultants from Threewin Limited. Everyone has a role to play in the successful implementation of the strategy. We look forward to working together to achieve success.

Yours Sincerely, Prof. Noah Midamba 3 Vice Chancellor Dr. Gladys Bunyasi, Principal KCA Technical College

| 118 Our demand driven programs will be guided by 3 principles

Data Driven Co-Create Co-deliver

Determine demand by Work closely with Involve employers in delivery understanding labor market industry/employers to of curriculum through work- data, economic trends and develop curriculum and based learning/talks/ conducting surveys. identifying key technical, involving them in mentoring behavioral and mindset skills required

95 We will adopt the Rockefeller Foundation Demand Driven training for youth employment Framework 1 7 Develop Understand monitoring the labor and market evaluation information plan

6 2 Partnering Implement with work-based employers learning and others

3 Develop 5 Design framework mentorship for program 4 screening

Impart Soft Skills Source: https://youtheconomicopportunities.org/DDTtoolkit 96 Understand labor market information

We will use labor market data to determine demand and inform our training program development Sources of Data • Government Data Sources: KNBS, County offices • Industry bodies e.g. KAM, KEPSA,AKI, KNNCI • Analyzing data from jobs boards • Partnering with online job sites e.g. Linkedin, Brighter Monday Benchmarking • New York`s Monroe Community College uses sophisticated data gathering and analysis systems to create Examples local supply/demand dashboards for occupational clusters - all with the goal of developing and fine-tuning programs that address regional and local skill shortages. • MENA-YES youth training for employment program, launched by Global Communities and supported by the Caterpillar Foundation, used the concept of Sector Advisory Committees (SAC) to bring together representatives from private sector companies, education and training institutions, and youth supporting organizations all active in the same target industry sector. • To incentivize employers to share their LMI, some TVET centers in the Philippines started offering free five- day certificate courses attractive to local businesses. Providing the course has improved the TVET's access to LMI: many firms now share their immediate and future hiring needs, get involved in curriculum design and training needs analysis, and consider TVET graduates for their job openings.
