Sono 154 i Paesi che prenderanno parte all'evento a cinque cerchi, che prevede 33 sport per un totale di 50 discipline. Tra le novità di questa edizione l'introduzione di baseball/softball, karate sportivo, arrampicata sportiva, surf e skateboarding. LA MASCOTTE La mascotte dei Giochi di Tokyo 2020 si chiama Miraitowa dall’unione delle due parole "futuro" (mirai) ed "eternità" (towa) rappresentando il proverbio giapponese "imparare dal passato per sviluppare nuove idee" e il desiderio che le Olimpiadi possano ispirare un futuro di “eterna speranza”. GLI IMPIANTI Sono dieci gli impianti situati nella "zona dell'eredità" nell'area centro-occidentale della capitale giapponese: Stadio Olimpico, Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Yoyogi National Gymnasium, Nippon Budokan, Tokyo International Forum, Ryōgoku Kokugikan, Baji-kōen, Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo Stadium, Parco Musashino-no-mori. pag | 3 Altre quindici strutture si trovano invece nella zona della baia di Tokyo: Ariake Arena, Ariake Gymnastics Centre, Ariake Urban Sports Park, Ariake Coliseum, Parco marino di Odaiba, Parco Shiokaze, Aomi Urban Sports Park, Stadio di hockey di Ōi, Central Breakwater, Sea Forest Waterway, Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre, Parco di Yumenoshima, Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Tatsumi Water Polo Centre, Makuhari Messe. Vi sono poi degli impianti che si trovano al di fuori di Tokyo, cioè: Yokohama Stadium, Parco Ōdōri di Sapporo, Spiaggia di Tsurigasaki, Saitama Super Arena, Poligono di Asaka, Kasumigaseki Country Club, Enoshima, Velodromo di Izu, Izu MTB Course, Circuito del Fuji, Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium, Sapporo Dome, Miyagi Stadium di Sendai, Kashima Soccer Stadium. IL LOGO Il logo ha un design a scacchi nel tradizionale colore giapponese del blu indaco ed esprime una raffinata eleganza e raffinatezza che esemplifica il Giappone. Composto da tre varietà di forme rettangolari, rappresenta diversi paesi, culture e modi di pensare e incorpora il messaggio di "Unità nella diversità". Esprime inoltre il fatto che i Giochi olimpici e paraolimpici cercano di promuovere la diversità come piattaforma per collegare il mondo. Il designer che lo ha realizzato si chiama Asao Tokolo. Viviana Bottaro (kata), Luigi Busà (kumite 75 kg), Mattia Busato (kata), Angelo Crescenzo (kumite 67 kg) e Silvia Semeraro (kumite 61 kg). GLI ATLETI ITALIANI Sono 384 gli atleti azzurri che proveranno a portare in alto il tricolore, 197 uomini e 187 donne impegnati in 36 discipline.
