After the enclosed issue of O.N. was duplicated, I discovered that Paul Hergct had publi.shed a new oFbit for (156) Xanthippe in the Minor Plane " Circulars in "1979. I computed the circumstances of the appulse with ' SAD, 145044 on April 18 using llercjet's orbita1· data, and find that the ' path is 1!'64 north, and 34'!'6 later than, the EMI' 1981 path which I UScG for my calculations given in O.N. This path misses thc! Earth's surface by 1!'36 to the north. I have reduced 1974 and 1977 observations of Xanthippe using both orbits, and find much better agreement with Herget orbit, which satisfies the data to i':S. Although the path uncertainty is still large enough that an occultation could still. occur near the ·~. EMP 1981 path, such an event will not be observable from Europe, since the closest approaCh actually will occur about 35 minutes later than m} EMP 1981 prediction. · Hence, the Sun Alt. = -2° line on my inap on p. 2( '" will'be nine degrees of longitude farther west, passi.n'j even west of Portugal. Skies would be dark enough at the Canary Islands, but they are probably too tar south for an occultation to take place.
