Title: THE ADAPTATION OF AN ORGANIZATIONAL CLIMATE FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT QUESTIONNAIRE IN AN ACADEMIC CONTEXT

Corresponding Author: Ponmalar N Alagappar

Affiliation: University of Malaya

Abstract: An organizational climate has the potential to not only influence the pervasiveness of sexual harassment, but also play a role in how harassment is interpreted and responded to. In other words, the climate impacts an employees’ willingness to provide accurate behavioural cues concerning how they actually feel about the harassment. Given that most research on sexual harassment has been conducted in western countries, especially in United States of America, the findings may or may not be generalize to other cultures. In Malaysia, incidents of sexual harassment in an academic setting has been disclosed by several local researchers in their empirical studies. This study tests the extent to which the climate for sexual harassment questionnaire can be used in an academic setting using a dual language i.e. both in Bahasa Malaysia and English and if it exhibited adequate levels of cross cultural validation. The original questionnaire was designed for a military setting in the United States, therefore amendments were made to the terms to bring it more in line with the terms used within an academic context and the Malaysian culture. The result of both exploratory factor analysis and PLS-SEM provided good support for the validity and reliability of the instrument. The instrument can be used to measure climate for sexual harassment in a large scale survey within the Asian context

Abstract: Humans are social creatures who always need someone else in his life. Loss of social contact with their surroundings will make them isolated and depressed. This condition is now commonly found in Japanese society. Japanese society, particularly those who lives in urban areas, has lose the social ties and

isolated from their surroundings. The relationship between them is getting weak as it became a disconnected society. Japanese society is known for its longest working hour system in the world. This system successfully made Japan as one of the industrial countries. On the other hand, it makes people in Japan have no time to socialize with their families and surroundings. Japan is also currently heading towards to aging society with the declining birth rate. The increase in population of the elderly is not balanced with the elderly care system. Many elderly people live alone without the attention of relatives or the surrounding environment. It causes many social problems and one of them is “kodokushi” or dying alone without being known by his relatives. The Japanese government is currently trying to reform the labor law to reduce working hour. Reducing the working hour will make people have more time to spend with family and relatives. In this paper, I will analyze the disconnected society problem and its impacts on the increasing of kodokushi’s phenomenon through a qualitative approach, description, and analysis methodology. It has been found that decrease in working hour has a significant impact to a better quality of life as people have more time with family and relatives. The result also found out that weakening of social ties is one of the causes of disconnected society on the increasing of kodokushi. The novelty of this paper is by analyzing the impact of long working hour system, increasing number of elderly, and declining birth rate to the emergence of kodokushi problem.

Abstract: Malaysia currently is grappling with the problem of environmental pollution from various scales of industrial companies. Most pollution is significant impact from poor management of industrial waste which significantly related to the problems of ethics and human morality. Religion is by far the most important source of values and the role of religion in the development process is once again on the agenda. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effects of Islamic environmental ethics knowledge on Muslims' small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) waste management sustainability in Malaysia. Questionnaires were distributed among 181 of the Muslim SMEs owners located in Kelantan state, Malaysia. Respondents were randomly selected from the various SMEs which ranges from fabrication industries, process industries, food and beverages premises, service centers and several others. The results demonstrated that Muslim SMEs owners/managers in general have a good level of Islamic environmental ethics knowledge and also shown positive relationships between attitudes and practices of waste management. However, the level of waste management practices among the respondents had statistically at moderate level. The findings of this study suggested that the knowledge of Islamic environmental ethics is an important factor and lead to a good predictor for waste management sustainability among Muslim SMEs owners and entrepreneurs. Therefore, there is an urgent need for stakeholders and policy-makers to consider and evaluate the role of religion (Islam), especially in designing effective waste management education and awareness campaign among Muslim entrepreneurs.

Title: MANPOWER PLANNING: EDUCATION PLANNING BASED REGIONAL- POTENTIAL TO ESTIMATE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL NEEDS

Corresponding Author: Imas rohimah

Affiliation: Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia

Abstract: In some countries, unemployment is still the main problem in the government. This can be seen from the unemployment rate in 10 countries in the world with an unemployment rate between 8.8% to 32.4%. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2018, there are 7 million unemployed people in Indonesia with graduates from vocational schools contributing a significant amount of 24.74% from total number. This can occur because of the incompatibility of the quality and quantity of vocational school graduates with the needs of the industrial world. Therefore, the government needs to plan education so that it is more targeted especially for the level of vocational school. One of them is by planning using the manpower planning approach and considering the potential of the area being developed. Manpower planning is an educational planning approach that adjusts demand and supply with the aim of avoiding shortages of human resources. There are six steps in doing this planning, namely: 1) Product forecast by sectors t plan targets p, 2) Productivity forecast, (P pw = product per worker), 3) a / b = E Employment sectors, 4) E = P / Pp.w. E distributed sectors by occupations, 5) Occupation distributed by education (levels and programs), and 6) Education "demand" aggregated. This research was conducted in one of the coastal areas in Indonesia, specifically in Indramayu. The technology of fish-catch processing continues to be developed in this region and requires competent workforce in their fields. The results of the study using projection techniques based on the manpower planning approach shows that there is still a need for vocational schools with study programs on Fishery Products Technology, Aqua Culture, and Fisheries Catching Technology. The existing vocational school graduates do not specifically have competencies that are in accordance with the wishes of the related companies, so there needs to improve in the learning curriculum.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in sensitivity of three methods: (1). IRT-Likelihood Ratio, (2). Mantel-Haenszel and (3). Logistics Regression, in detecting gender differential item functioning (DIF) on Mathematics National Examination (UN) in North Sumatra, Indonesia. DIF item shows the unfairness, it advantages the test takers of certain groups and disadvantages other group participants, in the case they have the same ability. The presence of DIF was reviewed in grouping by gender: men as reference groups (R) and women as focus groups (F). The study used an experimental method with a 1x3 design. The treatment was in the form of 3 different DIF detection methods, on the UN question items that were responded to by the participants. There are 5 types of UN Mathematics questions packages (codes: 1107, 2207, 3307, 4407 and 5507). The code package 2207 was taken as a sample of the study consisting of 5000 participants (3067 women, 1933 men; for 40 items UN questions). From 40 UN items, through classical test theory selection, 32 items were fulfilled, and through item response theory selection 18 items were fulfilled. With the program R 3.333 and IRTLRDIF 2.0, obtained 5 items were detected as DIF by the IRT-Likelihood Ratio method (1 favoring men, 4 nonuniform DIF), 4 items detected as DIF by the Logistic Regression method (3 favoring men , 1 favoring a woman), and 3 items detected as DIF by the Mantel-Haenszel method (2 favoring men, 1 favoring women). To test the sensitivity of the three methods, it is not enough with just one DIF detection , but formed 6 groups of participant-items: (4400,40), (4400,32), (4400,18), (3000,40), (3000,32), (3000,18), and generate 40 random data sets (without repetitions) in each group, and detect DIF on the items in each data set. The 3 parameter logistic model (3PL) is chosen as the most suitable model. With the Tukey's HSD post hoc test, it is known that the IRT-LR more sensitive than the Mantel-Haenszel and Logistic Regression, in the analysis group (4400.40) and (3000,40). The IRT-Likelihood ratio method is no longer more sensitive than Mantel-Haenszel in the analysis group (4400,32) and (3000,32). Even in the analysis group (4400,18) and (3000,18) the Mantel-Haenszel method and Logistic Regression turned out to be more sensitive than the IRT-Likelihood ratio. While the Logistic Regression method is consistently more sensitive than the Mantel-Haenszel method in all analysis groups.

Abstract: After the collapse of the Soviet Union migration situation has significantly changed in Eurasian region. In present time, several major migration corridors have been formed in the former post-Soviet zone: between Russia and Ukraine (3.3 million), between Russia and Kazakhstan (2.4 million), between Russia and Central Asian countries (2 million). According to the UN data, in 2017

Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan received most of the migrants. Moreover, a significant scale has temporary labour migration, which has become a powerful stream connecting countries in the post-Soviet zone and ensuring the development of sending and receiving countries. Most labour migrants from , Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan go to Russia and Kazakhstan. About 4.2 million people participate in these flows, accounting for 16% of the above-mentioned countries ’economically active population. Labour migration, has become a form of mutual economic and political integration of former Soviet republics, facilitating the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The member nations’ total population is 183 million. Nationals of the EAEU member states - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia - need no visas to cross the borders between any of them. Labour migration is a form of social and economic interaction between former Soviet republics and facilitates their mutual integration. The liberalization of trade between EAEU member countries is a catalyst for economic integration, which, in turn, stimulates migration. However, the EAEU does not have a coordinated policy on labour migration. Each member country has regulations on migration that are intended to serve its own ends. Some of the countries try to have as many people as possible work abroad so that a lot of money comes home as remittances, and at best such countries defend the rights of their fellow citizens abroad. But remittances that come in are in no way used to stimulate the economies of those nations. On the other hand, Russia and Kazakhstan try to attract cheap labour but time and again limit its inflows and raise quality standards for it. However, due to the large-scale exploitation of migrant workers, the widespread illicit issue of work permits and employment quotas, and the lack of clear information on how much foreign labour is needed, the recipient countries often make politicized moves and impose restrictions that are not always logical, consistent, or understandable. The logic of integration within the EAEU suggests that the five countries need a common labour market that is regulated under agreements.

Abstract: College students who experience depression may also experience strained social relations, academic difficulties, and in extreme cases, suicidal ideology and suicidal actions. For this reason, a preventative is recommended, namely by addressing depressive symptoms. Depressive symptoms measured in this study were emotional, cognitive, motivational, and physical. Depression, as defined by cognitive theory, is caused by three errors of thinking, known as a cognitive triad. Triads can be overcome by positive affirmations, as denoted by Louise Hay, with a technique known as mirror work. Positive affirmations are useful for helping individuals learn how to love themselves more, see the world as a safe place to grow, and see a more positive future. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of positive affirmations on student’s depressive symptoms. The research method was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest control group designed for 26 students. The positive affirmation treatment was guided through the mirror work technique for 21 days. The results of this study reveal that positive affirmations significantly decreased the student’s depressive symptoms, wherein the effect magnitude of the treatment was 0.58. The implications of these results provide alternative solutions to prevent the development of depressive symptoms in other possible disorders.

Abstract: In Indonesia, research on the value relevance of non-financial information is still very rare, while several studies outside Indonesia also show mixed results. This encouraged the researchers to examine whether environmental performance information provided additional value relevance or not. This research was conducted in the period of 2010 to 2017, with companies that consistently became PROPER participants for 8 consecutive periods as its research subjects. This study focuses on the manufacturing, mining, energy and oil and gas sectors, agro-industries, as well as the regional and service sectors that had a significant impact on the environment. This study focuses on the manufacturing, mining, energy and oil and gas sectors, agro-industries, as well as the regional and service sectors that have a significant impact on the environment. There are 208 firm-year that meet the sample criteria. The results show that environmental performance information provides added value relevance, which is indicated by an increase in R squared after entering environmental performance variables. But what's interesting is that investors respond negatively to the environmental performance information delivered by the company. According to the cost-concerned theory, this is because

the investors considered environmental responsibility as a burden that weighs in corporate expenses.

Abstract: Previous research on the impact of environmental performance on financial performance only used the short term perspective, resulted in the biased outcome, considering the impact from environmental performance towards financial performance cannot be expected in the short term. Because of that, this research used a sustainable perspective in order to examine the impact of

environmental responsibilities performance on sustainable financial performance. The environmental responsibilities performance is being measured with PROPER rating, while sustainable financial performance adopted the concept of profit persistence from accounting. The samples are chosen from the companies that participated in the PROPER program and listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The control variables used in this research are firm size, market share, leverage, and industry profile that represent the company’s special characteristics. The result of the research still could not confirm a significant relationship between environmental performance and sustainable financial performance, but they both are in a positive direction, which means that high environmental performance will be followed by sustainable financial performance. All control variables have been proven to significantly affect sustainable financial performance.

Abstract: Achieving and sustaining global peace has been the most human challenge and strive of all functions of world bodies including the United Nations. In short, such bodies like the UN came into existence in search for world peace but this has remained elusive owing largely to misapplication of power and justice. For the Igbo nation of Southeast Nigeria; just like a man is considered medically impotent if he cannot impregnate a woman by natural intercourse, someone’s power or authority is deemed impotent if such powers fail to bring about justice thus guaranteeing no peace because such a person no longer commandeers legitimate regard. In this case they say in Igbo language “ugwu eze bụ ndị ọ na-achị or gidigidi bụ ugwu eze”. Respectively, these mean that the king has no legitimate regard except his subjects ascribe same to him. This is only possible by his right application of power and justice couched in Igbo proverb as “egbe belu ugo belu nke sịrị ibe ya e bela nku kwaa ya”. This literally means, let the kite perch and the eagle perch as well, and the one that refuses the other to perch, let her wings break. This worldview has made the Igbo region the most peaceful in Nigeria with the least crime and conflict rate. This study examines how the world can legitimately win and sustain world peace with the concept of power and justice of the Igbo nation as embedded in Igbo proverbs which the people have deployed in response to their treatment from the Nigerian state. Data were obtained from primary and secondary sources and analysed qualitatively. Igbo structure of Proverbs was chosen for this study using purposive sampling, because it forms and regulates the people’s ideological and cultural worldview in tackling serious issues

like justice, power, peace, equity and fairness. Results from the study showed that the Nigerian state has continued to treat the Igbo nation unjustly and so like the British in 1929 seen in Aba Women riot have failed in having firm governance control of the people and its powers rendered impotent. This study recommends adherence to the Igbo concept of power and justice and adoption of same by world powers in search for achievable and sustainable global peace.

Abstract: The most important objective of any nations development is attempting to achieve human quality of life (QoL), especially fishermen life which is believed to have contributed as many as protein fish based. It measured by a variety of ways and interpreted by using many terms, such as human development index or based on physical, economic, social, and psychological dimensions. Regarding these issues, after exploring some resources, none of research finding related to fishermen quality of life construct validity. Most of quality of life reported was concerning about quality of life (QoL) patients related to any diseases. Therefore, this research was aimed at finding out the fishermen’ quality of life construct validity. A survey method was used by involving 120 fishermen, in Kamal Muara, North Jakarta, Indonesia. The QoL instrument developed based on theoretical dimensions such as physical, economic, social and psychological dimensions consisted of 24 items. Data analyzed by Pearson Product Moment correlation for its items validity, Alpha Cronbach for its reliability, and its construct validity by applying confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Research results revealed that it was only 20 items were valid, correlation range .120 to .834 after computing its items to scale correlation. Its reliability found .820, it was high in social research. It found that the average of their level of education and monthly income was high enough. However, it was only monthly income significantly contribute to fishermen QoL (r = .300). Surprisingly, it was found that all four dimensions for measuring fishermen QoL, have a significant intercorrelation among them. Moreover, based on factor analysis, result showed empirically that all factors loading were higher than .30 (Hair, et. al., 2010) and QoL instrument tend to be uni-dimensional. It was only two factors has been omitted due its ambiguity. Considering those findings, it could be concluded that this instrument was considered be appropriate to be applied in social research deal with fishermen quality of life.
