INTRODUCTION 1.1 The Background of Study Language is one of crucial tools of human beings to communicate to each another. Without language, people will never be able to communicate one another. People need language to communicate, to interact, and to get information from others. According to Harmer (2007:13) language is used widely for communication between people who do not share the same first (or even second) language. It means that language can be a primary necessity in human life. It has a big role for every people in making good relationship with others. Language is a means of communications. Through language, people can express their ideas, thought, and feelings. Hornby (1972:473) states that language is a human and non-intensive method of communicating ideas, feelings, and desires by means of a system of sounds and sound symbols. The language may represent the explicit and implicit feelings and thoughts. It can also be described as a vehicle of thought, because through language people can share or deliver what put in mind. Language may refer either to the specifically human capacity for acquiring and using complex systems of communication, or to a specific instance of such a system of complex communication. The scientific study of language in any of its senses is called linguistics. 1 UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA When we study about linguistic, we will know about semantics which study of meaning. In English we know that meaning have important position to study because it will give influence to someone to understand about speaker’s mean or how far some information can receive by listeners. For example, some lyric on the songs uses figurative language to make it more interesting and imaginative. Figurative language is language using figures of speech (way of saying one thing and another meaning). It is related to the lyrics of songs that use figurative language. There are many types of figurative languages such as: metaphor, simile, symbol, hyperbole, personification, imagery, repetition, imagery, alliteration, metonymy, and assonance. This figurative language is well known in education start from elementary to university level. In this study, the author is interested to analyze the songs because many figurative languages can be found on this song. Therefore, the author will discuss the figurative language found in song lyrics and try to classify and describe it. 2 UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA 1.2 The Problem of The Study 1. What are the types of figurative language used in the song? 2. What are the meanings of figurative language used in the song? 1.3 The Scope of The Study After reading the lyrics in the album, the writer has some focus on 4 figures of speech, such as: metaphor, simile, hyperbola and personification. • Let It Go Lyrics
Let It Go ‘Let it Go’ Lyrics Idina Menzel’s ‘Let It Go’ Lyrics The snow glows white on the mountain tonight Not a footprint to be seen A kingdom of isolation And it looks like I’m the queen The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside Couldn’t keep it in, Heaven knows I tried Don’t let them in, don’t let them see Be the good girl you always have to be Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know Well, now they know Let it go, let it go Can’t hold it back anymore Let it go, let it go Turn away and slam the door I don’t care what they’re going to say Let the storm rage on The cold never bothered me anyway It’s funny how some distance makes everything seem small And the fears that once controlled me can’t get to me at all It’s time to see what I can do To test the limits and break through No right, no wrong, no rules for me I’m free Let it go, let it go I’m one with the wind and sky Let it go, let it go You’ll never see me cry Here I stand and here I’ll stay Let the storm rage on My power flurries through the air into the ground My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast I’m never going back, the past is in the past Let it go, let it go And I’ll rise like the break of dawn Let it go, let it go That perfect girl is gone Here I stand in the light of day Let the storm rage on The cold never bothered me anyway Demi Lovato’s ‘Let It Go’ Lyrics Let it go, let it go Can’t hold it back anymore Let it go, let it go Turn my back and slam the door The snow glows white on the mountain tonight

  • Sam Fischer & Demi Lovato New Single 'What Other People
SAM FISCHER & DEMI LOVATO NEW SINGLE ‘WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY’ OUT NOW SAM FISCHER ANNOUNCED AS YOUTUBE’S FIRST ‘ARTIST ON THE RISE’ FOR 2021 Following the huge success of his global smash hit This City and recent project Homework, Sam Fischer has teamed up with Demi Lovato to release his new single What Other People Say out now via RCA Records. Listen HERE. Written by Sam before his single This City became a hit, it was a song he always knew would be a duet and was blown away when Demi Lovato became the perfect person to accompany him on vocals. Written about a feeling of being alone and not wanting to let people down, the pairing takes two different lives and perspectives and unites them in one message of human experience, emotion and togetherness, so they are alone with one another in the song. It is a truly special track with a powerful, moving and relatable chorus and is the next official single release for Sam since This City. Sam says; “What Other People Say is a confession, realizing how far away you can get from who you are in an effort to be liked. It’s about the pressures of society and how getting caught up with the wrong things can change you.” Demi says; “This song is a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society. It’s why I wanted to make this song with Sam – ultimately it’s about two humans coming together to connect and find solutions to their problems.” Alongside the announcement of the single, Sam Fischer has also shared that he has been chosen as YouTube’s first ‘Artist on the Rise’ for 2021, which follows previous winners Mabel, Aitch, Freya Ridings, Mahalia, Beabadoobee and Celeste.

iSing.pl - Każdy może śpiewać! Give Your Heart a Break – Demi Lovato The day I first met you You told me you'd never fall in love But now that I get you I know fear is what it really was Now here we are, so close Yet so far, haven't I passed the test? When will you realize Baby, I'm not like the rest Don't wanna break your heart I wanna give your heart a break I know you're scared it's wrong Like you might make a mistake There's just one life to live And there's no time to wait, to waste So let me give your heart a break Give your heart a break Let me give your heart a break Your heart a break Oh, yeah yeah On Sunday, you went home alone There were tears in your eyes I called your cell phone, my love But you did not reply The world is ours, if you want it We can take it, if you just take my hand There's no turning back now Baby, try to understand Don't wanna break your heart Wanna give your heart a break I know you're scared it's wrong Like you might make a mistake There's just one life to live And there's no time to wait, to waste So let me give your heart a break Give your heart a break Let me give your heart a break Your heart a break There's just so much you can take Give your heart a break Let me give your heart a break Your heart a break Oh, yeah yeah When your lips are on my lips And our hearts beat as one But you slip right out of my fingertips Every time you ruuuuuun, whoa Don't wanna break your heart Wanna give your heart a break I know you're scared it's wrong Like you might make a mistake There's just one life to live And

  • Nostalgias in Modern Tunisia Dissertation
Images of the Past: Nostalgias in Modern Tunisia Dissertation Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By David M. Bond, M.A. Graduate Program in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures The Ohio State University 2017 Dissertation Committee: Sabra J. Webber, Advisor Johanna Sellman Philip Armstrong Copyrighted by David Bond 2017 Abstract The construction of stories about identity, origins, history and community is central in the process of national identity formation: to mould a national identity – a sense of unity with others belonging to the same nation – it is necessary to have an understanding of oneself as located in a temporally extended narrative which can be remembered and recalled. Amid the “memory boom” of recent decades, “memory” is used to cover a variety of social practices, sometimes at the expense of the nuance and texture of history and politics. The result can be an elision of the ways in which memories are constructed through acts of manipulation and the play of power. This dissertation examines practices and practitioners of nostalgia in a particular context, that of Tunisia and the Mediterranean region during the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Using a variety of historical and ethnographical sources I show how multifaceted nostalgia was a feature of the colonial situation in Tunisia notably in the period after the First World War. In the postcolonial period I explore continuities with the colonial period and the uses of nostalgia as a means of contestation when other possibilities are limited.
