World Health Organization has declared the recent Novel Corona Virus, COVID-19 as Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) which has affected 213 Countries / Territories including till date. WHO has characterized COVID-19 as a Pandemic on 11th March 2020. In this context, Karnataka State has strengthened all Surveillance and containment measures against the possible spread of disease.

“As of 5:00 PM of 01st May 2020, cumulatively 589 COVID-19 Positive cases have been confirmed in the State, it includes 22 Deaths & 251 Discharges” +1 death due to non – Covid Cause.

Out of remaining 315 cases, 306 COVID-19 positive patients are in isolation at designated hospitals are stable and 09 in ICU (P-101, P-247, P-298, P-349, P-419, P-498, P-536, P-556 & P-557).

24 new cases have been confirmed for COVID-19 in the state from 30.04.2020, 5:00 PM to 01.05.2020, 5:00 PM.

Note: Out of 589 cases detected and confirmed in Karnataka so far, 9 cases are transit passengers of Kerala who have landed in our Airports and being treated in Karnataka.

Programmatic Updates

Home Secretary, GOI has issued clarifications on the consolidated revised guidelines on lockdown measures issued on 15th April 2020 that “No separate passes are required for 1 through traffic of trucks and goods carriers, including empty trucks etc., at inter-state borders.” (Ref. No. D.O No.40-3/2020-DM-I (A) Dated: 30.04.2020). Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GOI has issued list of red/orange/green districts for the week after 3rd May and the necessary action that should be initiated in these areas as part of 2 containment Action Plans. In Karnataka of the total 30 districts, 3 Districts are in Red zone, 13 in Orange Zone and 14 in Green Zone. (Ref. No. D.O.No.Z.28015/19/2020-EMR Dated:30.04.2020) Director, Health & Family Welfare Services has issued circular on screening of ILI and SARI cases at Fever Clinics to all the districts directing to ensure 1) All ILI & SARI cases should be subjected for swab test as per SOP for COVID test 3 2) All ILI & SARI cases SpO2 < 95% should be subjected for COVID-19 swab test. 3) Pulse oximeter and IR Thermal scanners are available at every fever clinic of the district. (Ref. No. DHS/PS/46/2020-21 Dated: 30.04.2020). Commissioner, BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) has issued orders on making mandatory of wearing face mask, proper disposal of used masks and gloves used by households and has banned spitting, urinating, littering and any kind of related public 4 nuisance, which will be considered as public offence. “Violations pertaining to the above mentioned directions will be penalized with Rs.1000 on first violation and Rs.2000 on second and subsequent violations”. (Ref. No. COMM/PSR/SWM/70/2020-21 Dated: 30.04.2020) On 30.04.2020:  In 31 Fever Clinics of BBMP, in total 158 people have been screened and till on date 6032 people have been screened. 5  In 523 Fever Clinics of State, in total 11062 people have been screened and till on date 176517 people have been screened.  In 97 Fever Clinics of Private Hospital and Colleges were operationalized, in Total 1627 people have been screened and till on date 10377 people have been screened. Home Quarantine Enforcement Squad have quarantined 23 persons in Institutions on 6 30.04.2020 based on the complaints received from public & totally till date 819 have been shifted from home Quarantine to institutional quarantine. The positive cases and suspects hospitalized in the designated hospitals and quarantined persons will be staying there for a minimum period of 14 days or till the successive samples of the positive case are proved negative or as per the treating physicians advice. This long 7 duration of stay in isolation requires a mental booster for keeping oneself calm & quite. Foreseeing this Department has arranged for Mental Health Counseling of such patients and contacts 1957 sessions were held on 30.04.2020 and so far 58541 number of counseling sessions have been held counseling sessions for migrants. In view to spread Awareness and Effective Communication on COVID-19, Govt. of India, 8 Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has lunched “Aarogya Setu” Mobile app on 09.04.2020. Application can downloaded from Google Play store and App store (Apple).

Page 5 of 6 Minority Welfare, Waqf and Hajj Department, Govt of Karnataka has issued Order for suspension of congressional prayers (Salat) and guidelines for Ramadan in The 10 Masajid/Darghs due to COVID-19 upto 03-05-2020. (Ref. No. MWD/2/MDS/2020, Bengaluru. Dated: 16-04-2020).

Appeal to Doctors has been issued by Hon’ble Chief Minister to give missed call to 11 080-47192219 or signup at https://forms.gle/TPbU7eZgazdxG9gS9 to volunteer for COVID- 19 Tele-Medicine facility and to help the Government.

“Corona Watch” Mobile Application can be downloaded from https://covid19.karnataka.gov.in In the application you can see the spots visited by positive 12 patients up to 14 days prior to testing positive. Also it shows the nearest First Respondent Hospitals and Helpline numbers.

During this COVID-19 pandemic lockdown period in the State for assisting public on fever, 13 cold, cough & respiratory problem a unique helpline Number 14410 called “Aptamitra” is started by Government of Karnataka.

210 lines have been reserved for receiving calls of COVID-19 on 30.04.2020 calls 7528 have been received. 8113 calls have been attended on 30.04.2020 and 34207 cumulative calls have been attended in “Apthamitra” Helpline.

Appeal to Public: Any person who has returned from COVID-19 affected Countries or has been in personal contact with such person must remain in Home Isolation for 14 days from arrival in India irrespective of having any symptoms or not. Also, should self-notify to nearest Government Hospital or free call “Aptamitra” Helpline 14410. Maintain personal hygiene, use tissue paper/handkerchief while coughing or sneezing, frequently wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer and avoid attending mass social gatherings.
