Buddy Mondlock Other songwriters say: “Buddy Mondlock represents the best of the new generation of singer/songwriters in folk music. His writing style is grounded in the traditions of the past, but has it’s heart in the present. He is one of my favorite writers.” Nanci Griffith “I first saw Buddy Mondlock while hosting the Ballad Tree, a tradition at the Kerrville Folk Festival. This kid in a bathing suit walked up and played “No Choice” to an audience of 30 - 40 people. By the time he got to the second verse, he had 200 people singing along with him. He blew me away! Pay attention to Buddy; he’s a great writer!” Guy Clark “Buddy Mondlock is one of our country’s best songwriters. His approach is gentle and Zen-like, the songs unfurl like little movies and the listener is transported to some distant better place -- and isn’t that what music should be about?” Ellis Paul “Buddy Mondlock is consistently eclectic, consistently innovative and consistently one of the few artists that doesn’t irritate me. I love working with him and he better keep working with me.” Janis Ian “While residing in the world capital of perfunctory 9 - 5 songwriters, Buddy Mondlock chooses to write songs that convey honest emotional depth through a prism of sophisticated harmony and melody. His song “The Kid” is a timeless anthem of innocence discovering reality. I cried like a little girl.” Richard Julian “Buddy Mondlock writes beautiful songs and plays the kind of guitar they deserve. He’s a fine person and a fine artist.” Townes Van Zandt www.buddymondlock.com .

Frog Records FR0G07 • National Release Date: April 2010 “Great unsung songwriter of Austin.” - Slaid Cleaves "A wordsmith of the first order." - Jimmy Lafave "The same sense of commentary and observation that made the likes of Woody Guthrie a national hero." - Ellis Paul “Country flavor, a tinge of James Taylor and not afraid to kick up some dust." - Austin Chronicle “A collection of well-crafted gems with something for everyone.” - Joe Angel, KEOS-FM, College Station, TX You may not know Steve Brooks by name, but you’ve been hearing his songs for years. They’ve been recorded by actor Russell Crowe (One Good Year) and Austin Americana artists like Slaid Cleaves (One Good Year, Everette) and Danny Santos (This Memory of You, Hungry for Love), as well as folksingers Emily Kaitz, Kevin So, Marilyn Rucker, Dave Hooper and Jessica Shepherd. He was heard on coast-to-coast radio on Jim Hightower’s late, lamented talk show, where he wrote a song-a-week about events in the news. Now, Brooks, is stepping out with his first studio album in fourteen years. Although Steve’s satirical songs have been widely played on folk radio, producer Chris Gage, of Austin duo Albert & Gage, captures another side of Steve: poetic, romantic and spiritual. “I’ve been chasing grace, but grace ain’t so easily found,” sings Steve in his soaring version of One Good Year, co-written with Cleaves. On Chasing Grace, he’s looking for it in unlikely places, from the mountains of North Carolina to Iowa fields and Texas honky-tonks, with help from sidemen like Richard Bowden (Maines Brothers Band), Tom Pittman (Austin Lounge Lizards), Eddie Cantu (Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis) and Courtney Audain (Timbuk 3).

  • Ellis Paul Biography - LONG
Ellis Paul Biography - LONG “Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music.” - The New York Times Some artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era overall. Woody Guthrie comes to mind, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others, for whatever genius they may possess, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond, be it in a coming of age, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences. Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some may refer to him as a folk singer, he is more, for lack of a better word, a singular storyteller, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. The hope for redemption. Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear. The sharing of love..., intimate, passionate and enduring. These are the scenarios that emerge from Ellis Paul’s new album, Chasing Beauty, a set of songs which detail, in typical Paul fashion, stories of people and places that reflect larger truths about us all.

  • THE DRAGONFLY RACES Written and Performed by Ellis Paul a 2008 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award Winner
THE DRAGONFLY RACES Written and Performed by Ellis Paul www.ellispaul.com A 2008 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award Winner "The Dragonfly Races" is Ellis' 14th album which was inspired by his two daughters. This marks Ellis' debut into the family/children’s genre. It began with the birth of his second daughter, when Ellis took time off the road for 6 weeks, the longest amount of time in his 15 year touring career. Late nights of pacing the floor while singing Sofi to sleep, Ellis decided to use his songwriting skills to create lyrics and music comprised of the messages he wanted to pass on to his daughters as they grow. The songs on the album are intended to be sweet and playful yet insightful and thoughtful. Written in true to form Ellis Paul style of compelling and witty story telling; each song will bring both parents and children into a picture that Ellis paints with each lyric. Themes of peace, unity, and a sense of the planet as a whole underlie the album with grace rather than overstatement. To make the CD even more special, Ellis has married his drawing and painting skills with his music; all the artwork is done by Ellis, fulfilling his dream of putting the two together. The songs and artwork are clearly meant to be enjoyed by children as well as adults and promises to be a significant addition to the genre of family music. The album is produced by Flynn (producer of American Jukebox Fables) and is joined vocally by other folk favorites, Antje Duvekot, Vance Gilbert and rhythmically by Bill Jonas.
