Another great month for the arts! In the space of fourteen days, we have had an amazing breadth and depth of activity. This month’s theatre visit involved forty students from across years eleven to thirteen who saw the touring production of ‘Our House’. We then had two special art days, our full autumn concert, the Schools Shakespeare Festival and Noye’s Fludde.

Another of the many extra activities we provide is our The Art and Design annual Life Drawing day for sixth formers. The Royal ACTION day Academy provided an excellent day for our forty-one Students from Barrow Primary, Horringer Court and ‘A’ level artists. The Academy staff had nothing but Westley spent a day with our art students praise for our students’ abilities and attitude. All four schools in the Trust took part together with South Lee who joined us through our Teaching School Alliance for this project. The pupils, aged from to , gained a huge amount from very high quality workshops between May and October. This culminated in two nights of performances at The Theatre Royal which saw thirty minute extracts from each of eight of Shakespeare’s plays. We contributed ‘A Comedy

The Royal Academy Life Drawing day of Errors’, ‘Much Ado about Nothing’ and ‘Twelfth Night’ to two excellent evenings, which also saw performances of Antony and Cleopatra, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. We thank and congratulate Mrs Stevens and Miss Lacey together with the staff and students from all the schools. In total there were almost two hundred students involved in this project and it was a real triumph for the Academy Trust.

Noye’s Fludde The Academy Trust was thrilled to be invited to give the Britten centenary performances of Noye’s Fludde in St Mary’s Church this month. It was the perfect project for our all-through Trust as Britten wrote parts for all ages. Individual Music Success We congratulate those whose results were We provided the orchestra, dancers and some of the received this month:- vocal soloists while other soloists and the animals going into the ark were played by children from across our Sarah Burns Alto Saxophone primary and middle schools. It is a testament to the students, staff, peripatetic team and sixth formers who lead the smaller rehearsals that we had such a variety of music performed to such a high standard. Our new and sixth form students have fitted in very easily with the other years ‘moving up the ranks’ so seamlessly that it was difficult to believe that the concert was just five weeks into the year. Fourteen ensembles entertained an appreciative audience with everything from Tchaikovsky to Lennon and McCartney. We congratulate and thank Mrs Davids, Mr Jarvis, Mr Jenkins and all who took part.

Students from across the year groups have produced a fantastic piece of art- work depicting scenes from Paris life whilst in languages students have produced conversations in French which could be taking place in the locations shown. As the QR Reader moves over the bar code in each place, you can listen to the conversations. We thank and congratulate the large number of students who have been involved together with Mr Janssens and Mr Snaith who conceived this brilliant idea and have overseen it to fruition. As the month ends, the talking wall has indeed become a talking point with national language associa- tions and looks certain to receive more recognition.

Languages in action As we introduced the teaching of German and Spanish into the other schools in the trust, pupils from all the schools came together to consolidate this half term’s work with a fun morning at Horringer Court. Our students were excellent leaders, helping the younger ones. Well done!

The whole group did extremely well and we congratulate them and thank Mr Jackson and Dr Bevan for accompanying them.

Pupils from all four schools worked in mixed groups on a biology day at Lackford Lakes. The theme was habitats and diversity with an emphasis on collecting data which will be analysed as part of ongoing work in each of the schools. Our year ten students were exemplary all day and will use what they collected in their GCSE Biology investigative work. The data will also be used to help other schools both with the new primary science curriculum and new GCSE controlled assessments through our Teaching School Alliance. All those who took part enjoyed bird watching, invertebrate sampling and other experiments in both aquatic and meadow habitats. Well done to all who took part and thank you to our staff, Mrs Payne, Mrs Cook and Miss Clayden who made our participation possible.

Health and Social Care students in the community A new course has begun for this term and the group has been out into the community visiting a range of settings including St Nicholas Hospice and West Suffolk Hospital where their maturity has been much appreciated and commented upon.
