    AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Webb Sterling Bauer for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Geography (Resource)presented on April 18, 1980 Title: A Case Analysis of Oregon's Willainette River Greenway Program Abstract approved: Dr. Keith W. Muckleston The Willamette River Greenway Program was created by an act of the Oregon Legislature in 1968 and modified by a second act in 1973. The purpose of the program was to protect the natural environment of the river from approximately the foot of the Cascade Range near Eugene, north to the Columbia River confluence, a river distance of 204 miles; while opening up additional parts of the river environment for outdoor recreation use. From its inception the Willamette River Greenway Program was immersed in controversy. Rural property owners along the river objected to the program chiefly on account of its provision for public outdoor recreation. Urban dwellers tended to support the goals of the program. However, even in their case objections were raised regarding limitations on industrial development and urban expansion along the river. This thesis examines the Willamette River Greenway Program from the middle l960s, when the idea for a greenway was first proposed, through December 31, 1978. Specific questions addressed by this thesis are (1) How and why did the program develop as it did? (2) What were the major issues? How were these issues resolved? (3) Who were the principal actors?What were their roles? (4) How might the program have been (and still be) improved to bring about a greater realization

Dear Voter: On May 20th, Oregonians will participate in our Primary Election as they have done for decades, , Oregon has been a leader in the nation with laws to encourage voter participation and to pro- tect the integrity of our election system. First came the establishment of our voter registration system in 1899. Then, the first voter's pamphlet, in 1904, to help Oregonians understand when voting no meant no and when voting no meant yes! The initiative petition, that we now take for granted, was considered progressive in 1902. In fact, Oregon was the first state in the nation to use the initiative petition. We were the first state to allow for the direct election of our U.S. Senators by the people, in 1906, rather than the Legislative Assembly. The "Oregon System", a controversial law adopted by the legislature , in 1908, allowed for the recall of publicly elected officials. The newly created law was put into action in 1909 with the recall of the mayor of Junction City. In 1910, we became the first state to have a presidential preference Primary Election. The theme of this year's voter's pamphlet highlights some of these and other Oregon Firsts.

See plaintiffs motion exhibit one. See defendant's opposition exhibit two. 2. On the 6`h day of July 2007, Common Pleas Court Judge Kathleen Aubry granted Plaintiff's motion barring contact between the minor child and Relator, casting a false light on John Michael Fitzpatrick as a promoter of sexual deviancy. See Judgment exhibit three. 3. Plaintiffs Motion cited the sexually explicit contents of a videotape production by Relator entitled "HOW SAY YOU, JURY NULLIFICATION IN AMERICA" which was twice cablecast in West Hollywood, California and has not been the subject of crin-unal court proceedings nor been found obscene. Judge Aubry stated she "viewed the tape and found that interspersed in a long discourse with a First Amendment Attorney, were clips of pomographic material which appeared to be gratuitous and unnecessary to understand the topic." Perhaps Judge Aubry is so familiar with images of bestiality and transsexual oral copulation that mere mention would suffice (absent the images themselves), but most members of the viewing (and voting) public are not that well informed.

  • 30 Years After Rotary International Was Founded, the Newberg Rotary Club Was Organized. It Received Its Charter
    30 years after Rotary International was founded, the Newberg Rotary Club was organized. It received its charter on January 14, 1936 becoming the first service club in Newberg. Over the years the members and certain aspects of the club have changed but its mission has remained the same. Beginning with the charter members and continuing through today, Newberg Rotarians have consistently put service above self to help better the community of Newberg and make a difference throughout the world. Newberg Rotary began with 22 charter members and was the 3,910th club in the world. By 1936 Rotary existed in 79 different countries. The Rotary Club of Portland sponsored the charter presentation which was presided over by District Governor Stanley Long of Seattle. After the Charter presentation, the club busied itself with weekly meetings and service projects. Weekly club meetings in the 1930s were conducted in quite nearly the same way as they were in 2016. Various speakers presented at meetings including Bill Stephenson, Vice President of the First National Bank of Portland who spoke about "The Changing Scene in Banking." One of the club’s first service projects was a joint effort with The Rotary Club of Mercer, Pennsylvania. The two clubs put together a list of forty four vocational books that was presented to the high school in Newberg. The Newberg Rotary Club also assisted the high school by helping with the Student Body Dance. The club offered other acts of service including a Student Athletes Health Project, which provided physical examinations for all student athletes, and the sponsorship of both a Sea Scout Ship and a Boy Scout Troop.

Minutes and Proceedings of the Coastal Caucus 53 1993 Oregon Legislative Fellowship Final Report 1993 Oregon Legislative Fellowship — Final Report 4 Oregon Coastal Zone Management Association Oregon State Sea Grant College Program 1993 Legislative Fellowship FINAL REPORT Background The OCZMA/Sea Grant Legislative fellowship began in 1987 primarily to provide students from the Oregon State University Marine Resource Management Program (MRM) with a means with which to apply the academic knowledge gained in science or public policy to the real-world arena of legislative politics. The pro- gram followed on the heels of the established and successful Knauss National Sea Grant Fellowship program, which places Sea Grant students in policymaking capacities in the Executive and Legislative branches of the federal government in Washington, D.C. As conceived, the OCZMA/Sea Grant fellowship would mirror this national program at the state government level, and in doing so, provide the Fellow with valuable educational and professional experience and OCZMA and Sea Grant with a liaison in the Oregon Legislative Assembly.
