West Fargo CFDA #‎L21, passed away on the morning of May 3rd. Wes had many close friends all over the world. Not only was he one of the great Fast Draw shooters of all time. He worked in a number of Hollywood movies as a gun coach and had many friends who were actors and stuntmen. Wes also was featured in the very popular video game “Fast Draw Showdown”, which was a hit in arcades across the nation. Wes was also one of the best known pistol-smiths in the world and specialized in single action revolvers. His action work was sought after by many world- class competitors in both SASS and CFDA. Wes served during the Vietnam War only to come home and be injured in a terrible car-wreck. Although he suffered through years of pain, he lived his life to the fullest, competing in Fast Draw and Cowboy Action Shooting. He was a Silversmith, Elected Constable of Tombstone, and a Pistolsmith. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Long before Europeans arrived to settle the land now known as the United States, Native Americans were already living in those places. Divided into their own nations, they made their own weapons, found and grew their own food and raised their families on ancestral tribal lands. By the time Andrew Jackson was America’s 7th president, however, Native Americans were not only losing their land, they were in danger of losing their culture.

PERFORMING ARTS • FILM HISTORICAL DICTIONARY OF Historical Dictionaries of Literature and the Arts, No. 26 VARNER When early filmgoers watched The Great Train Robbery in 1903, many shrieked in terror at the very last clip, when one of the outlaws turned toward the camera and seemingly fired a gun directly at the audience. The puff of WESTERNS smoke was sudden and hand-colored, and it looked real. Today we can look back at that primitive movie and see all the elements of what would evolve HISTORICAL into the Western genre. Perhaps the Western’s early origins—The Great Train DICTIONARY OF Robbery was the first narrative, commercial movie—or its formulaic yet enter- WESTERNS in Cinema taining structure has made the genre so popular. And with the recent success of films like 3:10 to Yuma and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, the Western appears to be in no danger of disappearing. The story of the Western is told in this Historical Dictionary of Westerns in Cinema through a chronology, a bibliography, an introductory essay, and hundreds of cross-referenced dictionary entries on cinematographers; com- posers; producers; films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Dances with Wolves, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, High Noon, The Magnificent Seven, The Searchers, Tombstone, and Unforgiven; actors such as Gene Autry, in Cinema Cinema Kirk Douglas, Clint Eastwood, Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, and John Wayne; and directors like John Ford and Sergio Leone. • Am AMERICAN HERITAGE
AMERICANAm HERITAGE DAY DEAR PARENTS, Each year the elementary school students at Valley Christian Academy prepare a speech depicting the life of a great American man or woman. The speech is written in the first person and should include the character’s birth, death, and major accomplishments. Parents should feel free to help their children write these speeches. A good way to write the speech is to find a child’s biography and follow the story line as you construct the speech. This will make for a more interesting speech rather than a mere recitation of facts from the encyclopedia. Students will be awarded extra points for including spiritual application in their speeches. Please adhere to the following time limits. K-1 Speeches must be 1-3 minutes in length with a minimum of 175 words. 2-3 Speeches must be 2-5 minutes in length with a minimum of 350 words. 4-6 Speeches must be 3-10 minutes in length with a minimum of 525 words. Students will give their speeches in class. They should be sure to have their speeches memorized well enough so they do not need any prompts. Please be aware that students who need frequent prompting will receive a low grade. Also, any student with a speech that doesn’t meet the minimum requirement will receive a “D” or “F.” Students must portray a different character each year. One of the goals of this assignment is to help our children learn about different men and women who have made America great. Help your child choose characters from whom they can learn much, and look for spiritual applications that can be learned from the person’s life.

  • Legends of the West
1 This novel is dedicated to Vivian Towlerton For the memories of good times past 2 This novel was written mostly during the year 2010 CE whilst drinking the fair-trade coffee provided by the Caffé Vita and Sizizis coffee shops in Olympia, Washington Most of the research was conducted during the year 2010 CE upon the free Wi-Fi provided by the Caffé Vita and Sizizis coffee shops in Olympia, Washington. My thanks to management and staff. It was good. 3 Excerpt from Legends of the West: Spotted Tail said, “Now, let me tell you the worst thing about the Wasicu, and the hardest thing to understand: They do not understand choice...” This caused a murmur of consternation among the Lakota. Choice was choice. What was not there to not understand? Choice is the bedrock tenet of our very view of reality. The choices a person makes are quite literally what makes that person into who they are. Who else can tell you how to be you? One follows one’s own nature and one’s own inner voice; to us this is sacrosanct. You can choose between what makes life beautiful and what makes life ugly; you can choose whether to paint yourself in a certain manner or whether to wear something made of iron — or, as was the case with the famous Cheyenne warrior Roman Nose — you could choose to never so much as touch iron. In battle you choose whether you should charge the enemy first, join the main thrust of attack, or take off on your own and try to steal his horses.
