SHOW SYNOPSES - Week of 11/16/20 SHOW SYNOPSES - week of 11/16/20 MONDAY 11/16: COVID-19 Vaccine Waits Approval THE PROGRAM TO VACCINATE 300-MILLION AMERICANS AGAINST COVID-19 IS ALREADY WELL UNDERWAY. HUNDREDS OF VIALS OF VACCINE ARE BEING STOCKPILED AHEAD OF ITS APPROVAL BY THE FDA, BUT THE FOUR STAR GENERAL TASKED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP TO RUN OPERATION WARP SPEED SAID THAT HIS BIGGEST FEAR IS PEOPLE NOT WANTING TO TAKE A VACCINE. Dean Fired For Medical Marijuana: A FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL DEAN HAS BEEN FIRED AFTER HE TESTED POSITIVE FOR MARIJUANA, EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN PRESCRIBED TO HIM BY A DOCTOR TO TREAT POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER HE INCURRED IN THE MARINES. MIKE HICKMAN WAS FIRED BY THE MARION COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD IN A UNANIMOUS 5-0 VOTE. THE BOARD SAID THAT WHILE MEDICAL MARIJUANA IS LEGAL IN FLORIDA, THE DRUG IS ILLEGAL UNDER FEDERAL LAW, ITS USE VIOLATES DISTRICT POLICY AND HE FAILED TO NOTIFY HIS SUPERVISOR HE WAS USING IT. Walmart Fires Robots: WALMART IS PARTING WAYS WITH ROBOTS USED TO MONITOR STORE INVENTORY AS THE RETAIL GIANT REALIZED HUMANS ARE JUST AS CAPABLE. THE ROBOT LAYOFF IS THE RESULT OF THE COMPANY CUTTING TIES WITH STARTUP BOSSA NOVA ROBOTICS, WHICH OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS PROVIDED SIX-FOOT-TALL INVENTORY-TRACKING MACHINES TO ROUGHLY 500 WALMART STORES.     ALEX TREBEK 1940-2020 CULVER CITY, CALIF. (November 8, 2020) – JEOPARDY! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. He was 80 years old. Alex was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2019, and he continued to host JEOPARDY! for the next 18 months. Throughout that time, Alex was open and public about his battle with cancer. JEOPARDY! episodes hosted by Alex will air through December 25, 2020 (his last day in the studio was October 29). The show is not announcing plans for a new host at this time. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Alex hosted dozens of game shows before becoming the host of JEOPARDY! in its syndicated debut in 1984. He hosted more than 8,200 JEOPARDY! episodes over the course of nearly 37 seasons, setting a Guinness World Record for hosting the most episodes of a single game show. Alex won the Daytime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Game Show Host seven times and was honored with Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He received the Order of Canada honor from his native land in 2017. “This is an enormous loss for the JEOPARDY! staff, crew and all of Alex’s millions of fans. He was a legend of the industry that we were all lucky to watch night after night for 37 years. Working beside him for the past year and a half as he heroically continued to host JEOPARDY! was an incredible honor. His belief in the importance of the show and his willingness to push himself to perform at the highest level was the most inspiring demonstration of courage I have ever seen.

Leadership transitions As I raise the topic of leadership succession, I’m a little nervous today! In a politically polarized America some of you have strong feelings about the recent election. I’m not nervous about what I’ll say, but a little anxious about what you might think I mean. When I laid out this sermon series in August, I did not purposely place this text about leadership transition less than two weeks after the election. I did not know what the results of any election would be or how Mr. Trump or Mr. Biden would respond. Some of you might be nervous too. Someone asked if I was going to use this passage to announce my retirement. I just turned 64 years old, and I won’t last forever. Maybe some of you are worried I’ll try to work until I’m as old as Moses (120 or so). The leadership transition that’s making everyone nervous this week is this: Who’s going to replace Alex Trebek? Sports betters are picking Ken Jennings, but other names mentioned include Betty White (who at 98 would still have two decades if she lived as long as Moses), George Stephanapolous (who reportedly wants the job), Drew Carey, Wolf Blitzer, and, yes, some have mentioned Donald Trump.
