Guess the Celebrities’ Heights!
Part I – Guided Practice
When you are told to begin, you will estimate the height (in inches) of each celebrity in the “Estimated Height” column. When finished, these answers are not to be changed after you have entered each celebrity’s actual height.
Estimated Actual Estimated Actual CELEBRITY CELEBRITY Height Height Height Height
Lebron James Venus Williams
Barack Obama Selena Gomez
Manny Pacquiao Dwight Howard
Beyonce' Knowles Miley Cyrus
BJ Penn Lil' Wayne
Leonardo DiCaprio Jay-Z
Tiger Woods Morgan Freeman Shakira
Create a scatter plot below to graph the heights above. Each ordered pair will show the estimated height as the input on the x-axis, and the actual height as the output on the y-axis, forming an ordered pair. You should have fifteen ordered pairs graphed in all.
Note: Be sure that intervals on each axis are labeled and even.
1. Does your scatter plot have correlation? How do you know?

Using the second scatter plot with the class’s mean estimates, answer the following questions independently.
1. What type of correlation does the scatter plot have? How do you know?
2. Is the correlation stronger or weaker than that on the first scatter plot? Explain your answer.
3. What would have happened if you estimated correctly for all celebrities? Describe how your scatter plot would have appeared using words or a picture.
