This three-volume series represents a comprehensive treatment of the beetles of Australia, a relatively under-studied fauna that includes many unusual and unique lineages found nowhere else on Earth. Volume 1 contains keys to all 117 beetle families found in Australia, and includes over 1100 illustrations of adults, larvae and anatomical structures. This volume is based in part on Lawrence & Britton’s out-of-print Australian Beetles, but is fully updated and expanded. The biology and morphology for all major beetle lineages is described and illustrated, along with anatomical terms which clarify the characters and terminology used in the keys; few other resources for beetle identification include such a detailed morphological background. A chapter on the fossil record is also included, and family sections provide full descriptions of adults and larvae, including the world distribution of each family. The revised identification keys (currently recognised as one of the most valuable keys worldwide) will aid quarantine agents, biologists and students in identifying members of the most species-rich order of animals. 150 € LÖBL & SMETANA 2013 CATALOGUE OF PALAEARCTIC COLEOPTERA, VOL. 8: CURCULIONOIDEA 2. 700 pags, tapas duras. MONASTYRSKII received 12.VI.2016 Abstract: Two new species and three new subspecies of Papilionoidea discovered in Vietnam between 2013-2015 are described and illustrated: Celaenorrhinus markus spec. nov., Faunis caelestis spec. nov., Dodona eugenes indigena sub- spec. nov., Horaga albimacula insulana subspec. nov., and Remelana jangala daoana subspec. nov. Six additional species in the families Nymphalidae and Lycaenidae are newly recorded to Vietnam. Introduction: Several taxa new to science and new to the country were discovered during studies of the Vietnamese butterfly fauna in 2013-2015. These observations span the entire country, including Lao Cai and Ha Giang Provinces (northern Vietnam, Dong Van and Meo Vac Districts) and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province (southern Vietnam, Con Son Is., Con Dao National Park). The former area is saturated with species distributed throughout the Sino-Himalayan re- gion that penetrate into montane habitats in Vietnam along the Vietnam-China border. The latter includes an isolated butterfly assemblage, similar to continental species in southern Vietnam that have diverged enough to be considered as new subspecies. This descriptive work reports recent progress in my ongoing work to document the spectacular butterfly diversity of Vietnam (MONASTYRSKII, 2004; MONASTYRSKII, 2012).

The molecular data matrix comprised 205 Limenitidinae species, four outgroups, and 11,327 aligned nucleotide sites using up to 18 genes per species of which seven genes (CycY, Exp1, Nex9, PolII, ProSup, PSb and UDPG6DH) have not previously been used in phylogenetic studies. We recovered the monophyly of the subfamily Limenitidinae and seven higher clades corresponding to four traditional tribes Parthenini, Adoliadini, Neptini, Limenitidini as well as three additional independent lineages. One contains the genera Harma C Cymothoe and likely a third, Bhagadatta, and the other two indepen- dent lineages lead to Pseudoneptis and to Pseudacraea. These independent lineages are circumscribed as new tribes. Parthenini was recovered as sister to rest of Limenitidinae, but the relationships of the remaining six lineages were ambiguous. A number of genera were found to be non-monophyletic, with Pantoporia, Euthalia, Athyma, and Parasarpa being polyphyletic, whereas Limenitis, Neptis, Bebearia, Euryphura, and Adelpha were paraphyletic. Systematic Entomology (2003) 28, 279–322 Cladistic analysis of the Neotropical butterfly genus Adelpha (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae), with comments on the subtribal classification of Limenitidini KEITH R. WILLMOTT Department of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, London, U.K. Abstract. A two-stage cladistic analysis of 114 characters from adult and imma- ture stage morphology provided phylogenetic hypotheses for the diverse Neotrop- ical nymphalid butterfly genus Adelpha Hu¨ bner. Higher-level cladistic relationships were inferred for thirty Adelpha species and twenty other species of Limenitidini, confirming the monophyly of Adelpha as currently conceived and indicating several montane Asian species as potential sister taxa for the genus. Cladistic relationships between all eighty-five Adelpha species were then inferred using three outgroup combinations. Basal and terminal nodes were reasonably resolved and supported, but a low proportion of non-wing pattern characters resulted in weak resolution and support in the middle of the tree. The most basal members of Adelpha feed on the temperate or montane plant family Capri- foliaceae, suggesting that a switch from this family early in the evolutionary history was important in subsequent diversification into tropical lowland habitats. The cladograms confirm suspicions of earlier authors that dorsal mimetic wing patterns have convergently evolved a number of times in Adelpha. The subtribal classification of Limenitidini is discussed and both Lebadea (from Parthenina) and Neptina are transferred to Limenitidina, whereas Cymothoe, Bhagadatta and Pseudoneptis (all formerly Limenitidina) are regarded as incertae sedis. Introduction Butterflies provide a rich source of material for many topics western U.S.A. to Uruguay (Willmott, 2003). • A Contribution to the Butterfly Fauna of S. Gansu, China (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea, Hesperioidea) by Zi-Hao Liu Received 30.III.2016
Atalanta 47 (1/2): 249-254, Marktleuthen (Juli 2016), ISSN 0171-0079 A contribution to the butterfly fauna of S. Gansu, China (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea, Hesperioidea) by ZI-HAO LIU received 30.III.2016 Abstract: A list of 185 species of butterflies collected and observed by the author from S. Gansu is presented. Some interesting species are illustrated. Southern Gansu Province (Longnan [formerly Wudu]) is located at the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. It is an area with complicated landform and climate, as well as high biodiversity. It is a mountainous area, with altitude ranging from 550 to 4187 m, in which west Qinling Mts., Dabashan Mts. and Minshan Mts. meet together. A few researches on butterflies of this area have been made, for example, the description of Ahlbergia hsui JOHNSON, 2000 and Araragi panda HSU & CHOU, 2001, but its butterfly fauna is still poorly known, with the only published work (CAI, 2011) on this issue recently. To study the butterfly fauna of Longnan area, the author made a collecting trip to Kangxian and Wenxian, two coun- ties of Longnan, in the summer of 2015: June 26th to July 2nd at Kangxian (on June 27th at Heimaguan, June 30th to July 2nd at Qinghe, on other days at a valley near the town), July 5th to July 7th at Wenxian (July 5th to July 6th at Qiujiaba, on July 7th at Bifenggou), on July 8th again at Kangxian (Qinghe). The above mentioned localities are marked on the map (fig. A) and their elevations are as following: Kangxian, 1200 m, Heimaguan, 1400-1600 m, Qinghe, 900-1600 m, Qiujiaba, 2000-2600 m and Bifenggou, 800-1000 m.
