Brevard County’s educators, support personnel and community supporters have a tremendous impact on the growth, development and achievement of our students each and every day. The ABC Awards… Applauding Brevard’s Champions program publicly honors and celebrates Brevard Public Schools’ extraordinary employees, volunteers and partners, who through their tireless determination help students achieve to Meredith Gibson their highest potential. They each deserve our praise for shaping the future by President Brevard Schools Foundation making a difference in children’s lives every day.

More than 500 nominations were cast for the 13 awards and special recognitions being presented tonight. Each nomination reflects the high standards expected in a community with a proud tradition of high performance in its public schools. From this group, finalists and winners were selected by committees to represent Brevard Public Schools as Administrators of the Year, Volunteers of the Year, Business Partners of the Year, Parent Involvement Programs of the Year, Employee of the Year and Teacher of the Year.

The program honors principals that have spearheaded initiatives to increase student performance and promote safe learning environments, often through establishing partnerships with parents and community members. Each district nominates one principal to represent elementary and one principal to represent secondary schools. Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award The Outstanding Assistant Principal Award recognizes exemplary assistant principals for their contributions to their schools and communities. The program honors assistant principals that have utilized teamwork and leadership skills to increase student performance, and promote safe learning environments, often through establishing partnerships with parents and community members. Each district nominates one assistant principal to represent elementary and one principal to represent secondary schools. Volunteer of the Year The Outstanding School Volunteer Award is presented annually to school volunteers who have shown outstanding dedication and commitment to their school through volunteer service. This award is given in three categories – adult, youth and senior. Volunteers are selected based on the number of hours of service, years of service, type of contribution and/or characteristics of services rendered. Parent Involvement Program of the Year The 2013 Parent Involvement Award recognizes innovative school practices that increase family involvement. One elementary and one secondary winner are chosen to represent the school district at the Florida PTA Leadership Conference. School-level parent involvement programs are evaluated on but not limited to their impact on family involvement, ability to be replicated, relationship to goals and objectives of the school, uniqueness and innovation and impact on school improvement. Business Partner of the Year The Business Partner of the Year honors those organizations that help our schools be the best they can be by contributing talent, treasure and time. These are organizations who display commitment, creativity and innovation in bringing about positive change to our schools and our district. Awards are given in three categories- small business, large business, and nonprofit. School Related Employee of the Year The Florida School-Related Employee of the Year program recognizes outstanding education support personnel for their contributions to their schools and communities. One person is chosen to represent Brevard at the state level. Florida honors one state representative and five finalists who have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in the performance of their jobs, thereby earning them the respect and admiration of students, teachers, administrators, co-workers and parents. Teacher of the Year Award The Florida Department of Education- Macy’s Teacher of the Year Program celebrates the contributions of classroom teachers who demonstrate a superior capacity to inspire and increase the learning of students of all backgrounds and abilities. Since its inception in 1988, the program continues to be a prestigious honor drawing participation from Florida’s 72 public school systems and other institutions. Brevard selects six finalists and chooses one teacher to represent the school district at the state level. The state selected Teacher of the Year serves as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for education, pursuant to §1012.77, Florida Statutes, for the 2012-2013 school year.
