Barry Neal. Barry’s beginnings were unusual. After graduating from Northwestern University and completing a successful run in the famous Mee-Ow show (who’s celebrity members have included Julia Louis Dreyfus, Dermot Mulroney, George Newborn, Craig Bierko, Seth Meyers, and Ana Gasteyer), his brother dared him to go onstage at an open mic to do a routine. Barry was hit that night, and knew that stand-up comedy was his next mountain to climb. Barry learned from the best comedians in the country. Jerry Seinfeld was a regular. He watched people like Bill Maher, Ellen Degeneres, Paul Reiser, and Tim Allen just to name a few. Barry learned by not only watching these comics but by being a good listener when these comics would talk comedy. Barry’s style is clean, high energy, and relationship material was a hit in almost every market. He quickly moved up the comedy ladder and was on cable and network tv, from MTV, NBC, , and VH-1. Barry’s act was noticed by a production company that loved his Counselor of Love persona, and his act is currently being shopped as a sitcom called The Counselor of Love that Barry wrote along with his partner Dan Patterson, who was creator and executive producer of Who’s Line Is It Anyway? Debbie Praver. Debbie Praver lives in Los Angeles but is always more at home in New York City because in Manhattan people are ready to order when they get to the front of the line. Her impatience combined with her sarcastic wit made stand up comedy her only career option. She was an invited guest performer at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival, has shared the stage with Kathy Griffin in Dennis Hensley's “Screening Party” and performs regularly at the Improv, the comedy store, and the Friars Club. Debbie honed her writing skills with Desperate Housewives Creator Marc Cherry and Desperate Housewives Co-executive Producers Joey Murphy and John Pardee. The refinement of her stand up act happened as she studied with the fabulously talented yet brutally honest Mark Lonow . She has been published in Los Angeles' Atomica magazine, is a fill in sidekick for Dennis Hensley on his Sirius Out Q radio show and makes appearances on paper in Dennis Hensley's “Misadventures in the 213” and Del Shore's novel “Sordid Lives .” Praver spent too many years in Disney costumes including Minnie Mouse, Pinocchio, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, the March Hare (who. the hare is in Alice in Wonderland), and in a pinch she crouched down to do Donald Duck in a parade. Because she towers at 5' 1” it appeared that Donald had joined the Rockette's. After escaping from the tragic kingdom she toured as the Dance Leader for the media tour of the Broadway musical “Footloose”, choreographed many fitness videos (those include Jeff Costa's “Cardio Strip Tease”, Denise Austin's “Pilates Matwork”, and George Forman's “walk it off with George ”), and choreographed the series “the Method workout” for Fit TV. Debbie received her BA in Physical Education/Exercise Physiology from Cal State University at Long Beach and can be found teaching all sorts of fitness classes around Los Angeles . "This is the one night a year where Judd Nelson feels normal," says Tony. In this scene, Rob's sax-synching is so powerhouse that Demi, who's newly crimped hair makes her look like an albino Pointer Sister, is compelled to dry hump the jukebox. "I'm obsessed with this moment coming up," says Marcus, "where Rob starts clapping and says, 'Let's rock!' I think he looks so awkward." Just then, his wife traipses in looking like Pat Benatar from the "Love Is a Battlefield" video. When Rob notices she's with another man, all hell breaks loose. "Get your hands off of my wife!" threatens Rob. "With narcissists," explains Dr. Beaverman, "everything belongs to them. They see everything as an extension of themselves. They are not independent objects." Dr. B takes a swig of Snapple and adds, ". . . .unlike whatever Demi's got stuffed into her bra which seems to have a mind of its own." "And check out that metallic lip gloss," says Tony. "It looks like she just went down on C3PO in the bathroom." - Screening Party on St. Elmo's Fire. It started as a series of articles for the British version of Premiere , and Instinct Magazine , but soon took on a life of it's own. Dennis Hensley, author of the bestseller Misadventures in the (213) , has been getting together with 5 friends to watch and debate, rant, criticize, and reminisce about films that are both recognized classics and guilty pleasures. Partway through this deconstruction of memorable cinema, you will encounter this musing on Armageddon: "'What girl would make out with her boyfriend in front of her dad?' wonders Tony, as Liv straddles Ben and sucks his face off while Willis and company look on. 'She mounted him in a sundress in front of her dad.'" If you're tired of plodding through earnest studies of film's impact on society, these words alone should convince you that this book is anything but. Dennis Hensley is a Los Angelesbased journalist whose writing has appeared in Movieline, Premiere, The Advocate , and other publications. He is the author of the n. "synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title. Hensley held a series of movie screening parties for friends and recorded the group's caustic chatter while watching the films. He relates what's happening on-screen while his pals (voiced by Kathy Griffin, Tony Tripoli, Erin Quill, Mark Salzberg and Robert Abele) create a Mystery Science Theater 3000-like atmosphere with astute put-downs, wry observations and behind-the-scenes anecdotes to delight film buffs. This crowd can even make a fun evening out of sitting through Armageddon, A Night in Heaven and 9 1/2 Weeks (which everyone agrees refers to "how long Kim Basinger is going to have to be on penicillin" after she breaks up with Mickey Rourke). When Julia Roberts enters Pretty Woman in a blonde pageboy wig and sailor hat, someone notes, "She looks like the Captain and Tennille rolled into one unfortunate person." During Flashdance, Griffin wisecracks, "The metaphors in this movie are about as subtle as Bruce Jenner's face work." Hensley saves the best commentaries for the last CD, when the group takes on Al Pacino's Cruising and Mariah Carey's Glitter. The entire cast is splendid. Hensley deftly handles the majority of the narration, but vies with Eve Arden reincarnate Griffin and hilarious mimic Tripoli as top laugh-getter. Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc. SCREENING PARTY. Screening Party is a TV pilot I produced with John Carrozza and Doug Prinzivalli of Velvet Candy Entertainment. It was directed by Chil Kong. The pilot played many film festivals and is now available on YouTube as a 4-part webseries. Here’s the blurb from the DVD box: Mystery Science Theater meets Friends in Screening Party , a short film/pilot about six friends and the movie-watching parties that bring them together. When journalist Dennis (Dennis Hensley) gets assigned to write about Pretty Woman for Marquee magazine's “Hooray for Hollywood Hookers” issue, he invites five friends over to screen, celebrate and skewer the modern-day Cinderella story. The partiers include his roommate Tony (Tony Tripoli), a burnt-out cruise ship crooner who's desperately looking for new gig on land; Lauren (Erin Quill), a relationship-challenged aspiring stand-up comic; Marcos (Felix Pire), a sweet-natured attorney who never met a tangent he couldn't go off on; Ross (Ossie Beck), a Opera-loving video clerk with multiple tattoos and arsenal of movie fun facts at the ready; and Dr. Beverly Beaverman (Nora Burns), the shrink next door who finds Freudian psychological meanings in everything she sees ("Tell me that snapping jewelry box doesn't represent a vagina with teeth.”) Together, they do their best to make sense of the 1990 Richard Gere-Julia Roberts romantic comedy classic while discovering that the movie's themes—sex, money, sex for money—resonate in their lives in ways both ridiculous and profound. Based on the opening chapters of the book by Dennis Hensley, Screening Party explores the ways pop culture can affect people's lives. Using well-known films as a point of departure, it explores the lives of these six characters; their hopes and dreams, lusts and heartbreaks, and how the ritual of getting together once a week to make fun of movies and their stars comes to mean more to them than they ever would have imagined. With insight, wit and campy reenactments, Screening Party is a fresh, fast-paced, exploration of the joys of friendship and the struggles that come with going after your dreams. So grab a seat on the couch, the party's just beginning.
