  • JTI's Moscow Office Recognized As the Most Comfortable in Russia
PRESS RELEASE JTI’s Moscow office recognized as the most comfortable in Russia JTI Russia headquarters wins Best Office Awards Moscow, June 1, 2016 – Best Office Awards 2016 winners have been announced in Moscow for the seventh time. The award for the best office design has established itself as a kind of Oscar for commercial and office interiors. In 2016, a jury of reputable architects had to select the best in 10 categories from 84 projects nominated for Best Office Awards. JTI’s Moscow office, which opened in September 2015, won in the “Comfortable Environment” category. JTI’s office is located in Mercury City Tower, one of Moscow’s skyscrapers, where the company purchased five floors with a total area of almost 10,000 square meters in 2012, to create a comfortable environment for its employees working at the Moscow headquarters and sales department. The design was developed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), one of the largest US architecture firms, in cooperation with the international architectural practice Aukett Swanke, Universum Project, and Knight Frank. JTI’s office in Mercury City Tower is distinctive for its splendid panoramic views over the central and western parts of Moscow and the Moscow City skyscrapers. One of the designer team’s key objectives was to make the best use of panoramic windows and natural light. With an average of 18 square meters per employee, the office is very spacious. Most desks and lounge zones are placed near the skyscraper’s panoramic windows. The conference hall is equipped with cutting-edge audio and video systems.

  • Year in Review 2020 – 2021
YEAR IN REVIEW 2020 – 2021 THE GARMENT DISTRICT ALLIANCE 1 WELCOME BACK Like most of Midtown, the Garment District faced new challenges this past year. Pedestrian counts were well below normal, as office tenants predominantly worked from home and ground floor businesses remained closed or limited their hours. Reduced activity impacted public safety and affected the ways in which we typically measure success. However, the Garment District Alliance was never more important to the neighborhood than it was this year. Despite the pandemic, our office never closed, as our dedicated staff continued to provide critical public safety and sanitation services. We worked closely with the West Midtown community, our neighboring BIDs, and the City of New York to tackle quality of life issues. We supported our local companies through social media promotions and business development initiatives, and we pushed forward with important streetscape, horticulture, and public art projects. In short, we kept the Garment District ready for business, while laying the groundwork for the years ahead. Today, we are happy to report that a slow but steady stream of employees is returning to the neighborhood. We are thankful for all the resilient companies of the Garment District, several of whom we celebrate in the pages of this report. Whether they have returned to the neighborhood or can’t wait to come back, our diverse businesses community is what will continue to make the Garment District a vibrant part of Midtown. Recovery has begun. We look forward to everyone getting back to business. Barbara A. Blair Martin Meyer President Chair 2 NEIGHBORHOOD PROMOTION 3 Doggy Bags A series of gigantic, playful dog companions took center stage on Broadway from September to Thanksgiving.

NEH Summer Institute for Teachers: The Cold War through the Collections of the Intrepid Museum Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum/ Project Narrative Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum The Cold War through the Collections of the Intrepid Museum NEH Summer Institute Proposal, Summer 2020 Project Director: Dr. Lynda Kennedy Introduction The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s Education Department proposes a two-week Summer Institute for classroom teachers from July 20 to July 31, 2020. The Institute, previously offered in Summer 2018, embodies the principles of the NEH Standing Together initiative through the use of two historic sites—the former U.S. aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, and the former U.S. submarine, Growler, a unique artifact that represents the technology and tensions of the Cold War. These historic sites, along with the oral histories of the men that served on these vessels, will provide a powerful starting point for examining the history and legacy of Cold War technology. The Cold War through the Collections of the Intrepid Museum will immerse teachers in scholarly historical research as well as the history, artifacts and oral histories in the Museum’s collection that embody the Cold War era. Integrating content exploring the historical context of technological innovation, the Institute will serve a national group of 25 high school history and science teachers in order to deepen their understanding and increase confidence in their ability to explore the subject thoroughly, critically and engagingly with their students. Dr. Lynda Kennedy, vice president of education and evaluation for the Intrepid Museum, will serve as a Project Director for the Institute.
