THE PRECIOUS BLOOD AS A WELLSPRING FOR JPJC by Francesco Bartoloni, C.PP.S.

he theme of Justice, Peace and the TIntegrity of Creation (JPIC) is becoming more and more pressing, as many religious congregations and missionaries in their ministry of ani- mation consider this issue to be essen- tial. The same is happening in our congregation. Fr. Felix Mushobozi, a General Councilor, has the specific task of promoting this topic for the entire congregation. Until our arrival, a big prob- lem existed between the slum dwellers and the parish due to lan- guage. Because they did not speak the local language it was difficult for them to participate in the sacra- mental life of the Church.

We spent the first six months get- ting acquainted with the situation and then trying to find solutions to the many problems that the people faced, like the need for food, cloth- ing and shelter. We also motivated the parents to send their children to school for education, especially the girls. Some attend Catholic schools while others are in Government schools. Since many parents could not afford the fees for the catholic schools they could not go there. So we negotiated with the parish priests and arranged that special reduced fees be asked of these needy families.
