Weeks before the production was to travel from an acclaimed run in London at the Royal Court Theatre to the East Village for a stint at the Workshop, the theatre (depending on whom you believe) either postponed or cancelled the play. Jim Nicola, the artistic director of New York Theatre Workshop, told the Guardian: ‘In our pre-production planning and our talking around and listening in our communities in New York, what we heard was that after Ariel Sharon’s illness and the election of Hamas, we had a very edgy situation. We found that our plan to present a work of art would be seen as us taking a stand in a political conflict that we didn’t want to take.’ The theatre then made an unconvincing attempt to backtrack from this statement in the press – the production was delayed because the size of the set used in London would not fit into the Workshop’s space, the personnel didn’t have the proper visas to work in the US etc. There were other, only 88 XML Template (2008) [21.11.2008–2:40pm] [88–93] {TANDF_REV}RIOC/RIOC_I_37_04/RIOC_A_355573.3d (RIOC) [Revised Proof] MARKET RULES – CHRISTOPHER SHINN slightly more defensible rationalisations, including that the Workshop wanted more time to organise post-show discussions that would include voices seen as ‘pro-Israel’ to balance the perceived ‘pro-Palestinian’ bias of the play. -

IRB protocol # 12-0485 iii Abstract Thorson, Gregory Stuart (Ph.D. Department of Theatre) The Dream Continues: American New Play Development in the Twenty-First Century Thesis directed by Associate Professor Oliver Gerland New play development is an important component of contemporary American theatre. In this dissertation, I examined current models of new play development in the United States. Looking at Lincoln Center Theater and Signature Theatre, I considered major non-profit theatres that seek to create life-long connections to legendary playwrights. I studied new play development at a major regional theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, and showed how the use of commissions contribute to its new play development program, the Colorado New Play Summit. I also examined a new model of play development that has arisen in recent years—the use of small black box theatres housed in large non-profit theatre institutions. -

Si vous souhaitez utiliser l'article sur votre site, intégralement ou non, veuillez s'il vous plait faire un lien vers Cittàgazze. Note du scénariste et réalisateur, Chris Weitz.

99 PERFORMANCES ONLY! “MAGNIFICENT. A GENUINELY EPIC PRODUCTION. THREE OF THE MOST VIRTUOSIC PERFORMANCES YOU’RE EVER LIKELY TO SEE.” --The New York Times Under the direction of Tony Award®, Academy Award® and Golden Globe winner Sam Mendes (The Ferryman; “1917;” “American Beauty”), a trio of accomplished actors who represent the best of British Theatre – Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley, Ben Miles – transfer to Broadway after their sold-out runs at London’s National Theatre, West End and New York’s Park Avenue Armory. This New York Times Critic’s Pick is written by Stefano Massini and adapted by Ben Power. On a cold morning in 1844, a young man from Bavaria stands on a New York dockside dreaming of a new life in the new world. He is joined by his two brothers, and therein begins an American tale of ambition. THE LEHMAN TRILOGY brings to light their modest beginnings and enormous successes until, 163 years later, the firm they establish – Lehman Brothers – dramatically collapses into bankruptcy, generating the largest financial crisis in history. The New York Post hails the production as “the must-see event of the year. Do anything you can to get a ticket” while The Wall Street Journal declares, “You should crawl across broken glass to see it.” NEDERLANDER THEATRE 208 West 41st Street New York, NY 10036 Groups 10+ Previews begin September 25, 2021 Opening Night October 14, 2021 Running Time 3 hours, 20 minutes, including 2 intermissions (told in 3 parts, presented together as 1 piece of theatre) Limited Engagement through January 2, 2022 NOTES FROM THE PRODUCTION: This production features instances of flashing lights and some video effects that may cause dizziness.
