OFFICIAL COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER October 2017 4 Elect Vote Grace Nelson Oct.16 Councillor Ward 6 2017 To make this City work better, we all need to do our homework. Here is part of Grace’s plan: 1. Keep employment here. Before we seek other professionals and experts from outside our City, let us ensure we have given our homegrown talent a chance to work with us. 2. Effective communication between businesses, City departments and neighbourhoods. Residents want to be more engaged in decision making in planning and implementing stages of our infrastructure projects. 3. Preserve the institutions that have made us unique. Let us maintain that friendly, western hospitality and show the world, that we welcome diversity and inclusiveness, because this contribution benefits us all. 4. Maintain Calgary as a resilient, prosperous and thriving City. Our boom and bust cycles must not continue. We need to be more resilient and diversified economically, so we do not feel the pinch. 5. As we Transition to an Environmentally Sustainable Lifestyle, Calgarians need encouragement in public research and education to make this possible for business to create jobs. I will work to implement policies that encourage safe and affordable options for all demographics. 403-264-3844 [email protected] www.gracenelson4yyc.ca @gracenelson4yyc @gracenelsonyyc #GowithGrace

clean living trend From organic fair-trade coffee to fitness trackers and vegan restaurants, signs of the clean living movement are popping up in neighbourhoods across Canada. More than a fad, it's a lifestyle transformation that's all about leading healthier and more sustainable lives. Here are some tips to try the trend. Refresh your home. Principles like simplicity and minimalism are key, so give your home an easy clean living makeover by decluttering and editing your space. Go green by reducing your energy consumption, recycling and choosing sustainable materials for new purchases. Boost your meals. Eating clean is less about eliminating taboo ingredients like sugar and more about wholesome balance with a varied diet that focuses on fresh and nutritious fruits and vegetables. Try adding superfoods like avocado, kale or quinoa to your favourite recipes. Hit the gym. With clean living, fitness and exercise are ways to get in shape and be heathier, not lose weight. Find a fun way to reap the mental and physical benefits of moving your body, like yoga, CrossFit or “piloxing” — a fusion of Pilates and boxing. Avoid drugs and alcohol. You don't have to give up your glass of red wine with dinner, but moderation is important. Remember to always avoid drugs and alcohol when driving, because even small amounts can affect your ability to drive safely. This includes legal drugs, such as opioid pain relievers and benzodiazepines prescribed for anxiety or sleep disorders. ~ newscanada.com
