The castle was built between 1262 and 1265 and is one of Alsace’s most important photo Crédit fortified castles. It is remarkably well conserved and only accessible on foot. This protected natural environment offers a magnificent view over the plain of Alsace.

Founded in 750 this village was the place of the first peasant revolt. From the Middle Age, wine-growing know-how was already developed. In the XVIIIth century, it was the
principal economic activity, although small-scale coal mining was beginning to appear.

1. Leave Dambach-la-Ville, thanks the “la rue de l’Eglise » and “ la rue Irma Mersiol Burrus” in direction of Dieffenthal, D35 2. After the cross roads with the D 535 we leave the D 35 and follow a little road to go to Scherwiller 3. In Scherwiller bear right direction Taennelkreuz (208m) 4. From there, bear left, towards the red rectangle path that we take right hand to arrive on the GR5 5. Follow the same path (yellow disk) in direction of Thanvillé, that we pass through 6. Then follow the D 253 to Saint Pierre Bois and the D 903 7. At the cross road with the D 203, follow it and bear right in order to bypass Howarth and go in direction to Blienschwiller 8. In Blienschwiller reach the Wine road (D 35), follow then at right in direction of Dambach-la-Ville 9. You arrive in Dambach-la-Ville thanks the Blienschwiller’s door 10. Go at right in «rue du Général de Gaulle » to come back at our starting point.
