GOLDEN VILLAGE BRINGS CINEMA BACK TO HEARTLANDS New local curry-flavoured popcorn to be sold exclusively at GV Bedok as GV pays homage to local food culture

Singapore, 25 June 2018 – Golden Village Multiplex (GV), Singapore’s leading cinema exhibitor, has answered the call of the residents of Bedok, with the opening of its new 576-seat multiplex at the new DjitSun Mall Bedok, where the iconic Princess Theatre once stood.

From Hollywood blockbusters to inspiring independent films, patrons of the new six- theatre multiplex can look forward to razor-sharp laser projection combined with pristine sound, from the unparalleled comfort of GV Bedok’s leatherette seats – all within the immediate vicinity of their homes, as the company continues its steadfast commitment to delivering the finest cinematic experience in Singapore.

GV Bedok will cater to the demand among residents for a cineplex in a neighbourhood that was once home to a cluster of four cinemas in the 1990s. Since the closing of the Princess Theatre 10 years ago, residents of Bedok have eagerly awaited the return of a movie theatre to Singapore’s most densely populated neighbourhood, home to some 300,000 residents.

Speaking about the company’s entry into the Bedok heartlands, Ms. Clara Cheo, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Village Multiplex said, “We are constantly striving to create the very best cinematic experiences to our customers throughout Singapore and we know that convenience is a very important factor when looking for entertainment options. We’ve long heard the call from the residents of Bedok to bring a cinema back to this vibrant neighbourhood, but finding the right location in the heart of the neighbourhood was always key.

“With DjitSun Mall Bedok, we’ve found just that and with this opening, we’re finally able to heed that call. We’re delighted to be Singapore’s only cinema operator serving the residents of Bedok,” added Cheo.

In a homage to this renowned food haven in the Eastern part of Singapore, which is famed for its traditional hawker dishes, Golden Village is launching a new localised curry-flavoured gourmet popcorn in tandem with the opening of its new cinema. The flavour will be exclusively available at GV Bedok for three months from GV Bedok’s opening. In addition, GV will introduce three other gourmet popcorn flavours – Seaweed Wasabi, Caramel, and Cheese – across its cinemas island-wide.

Continuing its enthusiasm for culinary delights and support of local brands, GV is also working with homegrown F&B chain Saybons to offer cinemagoers a wholesome spread of hot soups, pastas and light bites at GV Bedok.

Mr. Lim Fang Hua, (BBM), Managing Director of Overseas Movie Pte. Ltd., landlord of DjitSun Mall Bedok, added, “We are very pleased with the public’s positive response to the mall opening, knowing that Golden Village will be one of the anchor tenants in our new development. We have been working with our tenants to deliver a rich variety of experiences and we’re excited to make our entertainment, retail and dining options more accessible to the residents of Bedok with the new DjitSun Mall Bedok.”

GV Bedok is now opened. Movie tickets for GV Bedok can be purchased online at www.gv.com.sg and via the iGV app.
