What Kind Of Savior Are We Looking For?

“Are you the one who is to come or should we wait for another?” (Matthew 11:3). This was the question that St. sent to through his disciples from prison. This was because the Jewish people had waited for centuries for the coming of the . They longed for a Messiah who would destroy all the wicked people and all the enemies of Israel, but Jesus came preaching love for our enemies and reconciling sinners to God. They were beginning to express some doubts about Jesus being the Messiah. “Jesus said to them in reply, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.” (Matthew 11:4-6)

What kind of Savior are we looking for? The liturgy of the Third Sunday of Advent invites us to rea ect on the Savior who has come to establish the triumphant reign of God in our hearts, our families, and our world. As we look forward to the coming of Christmas, we pray for the grace to bend our wills to the will of God. It is in His Will that we ` nd a true and lasting peace.

“Lord, no matter how dark the night is, all we ask for is your grace to stand strong. We want to be yours in season and out of season. May we never be parted from your side.”

-Fr. Mark Thomas Ameh, MSP

Celebrate Advent: Traditions

Do you have any favorite Christmas traditions from when you were a child? Perhaps it was going together as a family to pick out the perfect tree. Maybe it was the cookies you baked together with your mom. These traditions are important to us because they provide us an anchor and connection to our family. Traditions tie a family together and give all of us a sense of belonging.

In the , traditions were important to God’s people. God instructed them to celebrate certain feasts and festivals each year. These events were to be used to rea ect on and remind God’s people of all God had done for them. Parents were instructed to use these festivals to teach their children about God and his faithfulness toward His people.

Advent and Christmas are great times for parents to “pass these God-focused activities to the next generation.” It’s a time to teach our children about who Jesus is and what he has done. It’s a time to center our hearts on our Savior with our families.

One way to focus on Christ during this Advent season is to learn some of the names of Jesus in Scripture. There are at least two hundred names, titles, or descriptions for Jesus in the Bible, but here are ten names you can study with your children in the remaining days leading up to Christmas.

To make it fun and engaging for your children, have them make a paper chain with one name on each link and then hang your link around a tree when it’s complete or they can make ornaments for your tree.

The Names Of Jesus
