Woehrle, Minnesota State University, Mankato, USA ABSTRACT Remote viewing is a branch of parapsychology involving mental telepathy to view targeted objects. Significant studies and applications are cited that have legitimized remote viewing as a credible and valuable technique. This paper explores the application of remote viewing to some aspects of the auditing process. The author’s premise is that remote viewing can be used to detect anomalies in accounting systems. Its most relevant use may be for assessment questioning in a fraud investigation. Keywords: Remote viewing, fraud investigation, auditing techniques INTRODUCTION emote viewing is defined as the ability to experience and describe events beyond normal perception. It could also be called enhanced intuition, unconventional internal perception, or sixth sense. The term was coined by Laser Physicists Hal Puthoff and Russell Targ, in 1972, while working at the Stanford Research R1 Institute . Starting in the mid 1970s, The United States’ Department of Defense contributed over $23 million dollars to the Stanford Research Institute for the development of remote viewing techniques and applications, over a 20 year period. Some of those applications included the 1988 location of the shipwrecked Brig, Leander, in the Bahamas; the location of the kidnapped Patricia Hearst in 1974; and the location of a nuclear Soviet Bomber during the Carter Administration.2 U.S. research found that physics and psychology merge in the study of remote viewing abilities, because the human mind is linked to other connections by way of natural phenomena.

Tinoco & João P. L. Ortiz Integrated Center for Experimental Research, Curitiba-Pr, Brazil Abstract The effects of magnetic stimulation of the brain in comparison with suggestibility and expectation are studied. Eight magnetic coils were embedded in a helmet, placing four over the temporal lobes on each side of the head. These produced 0.0001 Tesla (10 mG) magnetic fields (MF). “Spiritual experiences” were reported by some of the 20 volunteers who received magnetic stimulation of the temporal lobes. These “spiritual experiences” included sensing the presence of “spiritual beings.” Stimulation durations and field strengths were within the limits used by Dr. M. A. Persinger in similar (“God Helmet”) experiments (20 minutes, 10 mG). Questionnaires were applied before, during, and after the experimental sessions. Analysis of the subjects’ verbal reports, using Whissel’s Dictionary of Affect in Language, revealed significant differences between subjects and controls, as well as less robust effects for suggestion and expectation. Current research suggests that intuition plays a significant role in cognition, decision-making, and creativity. Intuitive perception is beneficial to management, entrepreneurship, learning, medical diagnosis, healing, spiritual growth, and overall well-being, and is furthermore, more accurate than deliberative thought under complex conditions. Accordingly, acquiring intuitive faculties seems indispensable amid present day’s fast-paced multifaceted society and growing complexity. Today, there is an overall rising interest in intuition and an existing pool of research on intuition in management, but interestingly an absence of research on intuition in the field of art. This qualitative-phenomenological study explores the experience of intuition in both professional practices in order to show comparability and extend the base of intuition, while at the same time revealing what is unique about its emergence in art practice. Data gathered from semi-structured interviews and online-journals provided the participants’ experience of intuition and are presented through individual portraits, including an introduction to their work, their worldview, and the experiences of intuition in their lives and professional practice.

    Examining Coincidences: towards an integrated approach Laurence Browne MA (London), MA (Griffith) A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Queensland in 2013 School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics Abstract A coincidence can be broadly defined as ‘a notable co-occurrence of events’ which may have causal or non-causal origins. Some coincidences have discernible causal connections, though these may be quite subtle and complex. Others are clearly attributable to the random play of chance or luck, while certain ostensibly random coincidences can be distinguished by the numinosity and meaning they hold for the individual involved. C. G. Jung coined the term synchronicity for such coincidences. However, there is currently no generally accepted overarching theoretical framework that deals comprehensively and inclusively with the several disparate categories under which different sorts of coincidences might be appropriately classified. The aim of this thesis is to remedy that omission. Just as planets and stars appear as points of light in the night sky and are indistinguishable to the untrained eye, so coincidences may seem on the surface to be all of one kind. This, unfortunately, has led to a tendency towards either/or explanations to account for them, a situation exacerbated by the ideological and metaphysical presumptions that have historically been equated with particular explanations. And there is more than a grain of truth to the notion that how we personally interpret coincidences is a reflection of our underlying beliefs about the nature of the universe and whether or not there is more to our existence than meets the eye.
