• One suitcase – no more than 62’’ in total dimensions and weighing no more than 50 pounds. – Extra luggage will result in $100 overweight fee. • The Ciudad Real T-shirt • Carry-on – No more than 45’’ in total dimensions and weighing no more than 40 pounds. • One personal item – For example, a small backpack or a purse. • The less you bring the better, as we have limited space!

• Normal weekdays – Class: 10:20-1:45 (1 Break – 15 minutes) – Lunch: 2:00-2:50 – Afternoon activities: 3:00-4:00 – Siesta/Homework time: 4:00-7:00pm – Free time: 7:00-8:00pm – After 8:00pm, dinner and family time • Weekends spent with host families

• Week nights – Sunday through Thursday – Free hours: 7-8pm • You can be with your friends (in groups of 3+!) – You can go out after hours (8pm-12am) with appropriate adult supervision • Appropriate supervision = host parent(s) • Immediate family member(s) – Must be 25 years old or older – Curfew: 8pm

39 Finances - What to Bring

• An ATM/debit card (preferably Visa) that can be recharged in the US. – Request card with enough time for delivery and use in the US before travelling to ensure that it is working properly – Call your U.S. bank and let them know the card will be used abroad – Check fees with your bank beforehand – AmEx is not accepted in many places in Spain • Cash – For the very first days (≈€100) and excursions – For snacks/drinks from estancos/quioscos (stands that sell food) – REBAJAS!!! (Nation-wide retail sale beginning July 1st) – Many US banks have Euros if you order 2 weeks before departure

40 Managing Your Finances

• Many places prefer cash over credit/debit cards – Withdraw enough cash for several days – Always have some cash on you (≈€15) • Write down your card numbers and bank phone numbers in a secure place (students in Spain and parents at home) in case your card gets lost or stolen. – Also, keep 20€ at home • Know your pin number by the NUMBERS and not by letters (there are usually no letters on keypads) • Traveler checks not accepted

You are on your own! • In case of money emergencies, funds can be transferred via Western Union – Minors not allowed to collect the money – I will be contacted through the program’s main office • Instructors and host families CANNOT lend students money or hold money for students.
